Securing my cat into eating less

Living in an appartement with my cat, and he's pretty stressed, mostly dû to an old lady living under us, that keeps hitting the ceiling because she hates cats.

That problem is almost solved because I am moving into my house in about 2 weeks, but since last week there is alot of stuff changing in the appartement dû to the preparation of my moving, and I think the cats knows it, which makes him more stressed, and it seems that like a human beeing his first reaction is to eat.

Since he was young (he is now 2) I always trained him that he gets his food at night and that's all he gets till next night, and I never had problems (he weigts 10 pounds so according to the food bag i need to give him 0.5 cup per day) Usually he never finishes it until the next night.

But since last week I give him food at 10PM like usual and at 9AM the next morning his food is already empty.

And when i go to the food closet (lol right icalled it a food closet) he comes and then start meowing like he's hungry. Problem is I don't want to stuff him food and make him become fat. And also i don't want to go and give him food saying 'oh it's just 2 weeks' and then he keeps asking for food.

Is there anything else I can do to help him? Kinda scared that he could starve

He won't starve, wild animals go days without food all the time and cats haven't been domesticated all that long. Their stomach expands to hold the available food and they digest it over time.

I find that cats will act like they are starving when you go near their food cabinet even 5 minutes after they have eaten. Look up how much you should be feeding a cat per day and stick to that. Don't get tricked/d'awwwed into giving it more just because it acts like its starving.

They are plenty smart enough to abuse the soft feelings of their human, but you need to be strong for their own good. Much like having a small fuzzy toddler.

Fuck. My dog looks like he's on death's door when he wants food. Sad eyes, whimpering, moving his food dish around. It's hilarious.

Leave out some dry food to hold him over. None of my cats are overweight and they have 1/4-1/2 can of food in the morning with dry food left out all day for them to pick at.

They will always act like they've never eaten before no matter what you do.

I'm going to guess your cat is an indoor cat and doesn't eat wet food.

I buy my cats indoor specific dry food. Indoor cats tend to be overweight compared to outdoor cats (lack of exercise etc) but my 2-year-old cat has never been overweight. The food is low fat compared to other food. I usually leave a food dish out for him throughout the day/night and never had a problem.
