Dynasty Warriors 8 (known as Dynasty Warriors 7 in Japan) has been announced for the PlayStation 3 in Japan’s Jump magazine.

Jump reports that the game will feature the highest number of military commanders thus far.

Dynasty Warriors 8 is slated for release sometime in 2013. Jump shows images of Gakushin as a playable character.

Following its intial Jump leak this morning, Famitsu this week has new details on the characters and systems of the newly announced Dynasty Warriors 8 for PlayStation 3. Find the lot of info below.

Characters

Li Dian (CV: Kousuke Toriumi) – Utilizes a battle spear as a weapon.
Gakushin (CV: Kentarou Itou) – Utilizes two hooks as weapons.
Cao Cao – His special weapon has been changed to a commander sword.
Xiahou Dun
Dian Wei
Zhang Liao
Zhou Yu
Sun Shangxiang
Zhao Yun
Zhuge Liang

Systems

Storm Rush: Each weapon has an affinity. You can invoke this move if it has a good affinity towards an enemy commander’s weapon. Break an enemy commander’s stance, and mince with consecutive attacks. The more you continue to attack, the slower your attack speed becomes.

Variable Counter: This is a special action that you can activate if the affinity with your enemy’s weapon is bad. Using the force of your enemy’s attack, this technique is a counter which blows off your partner. You can blow off all your nearby enemies. When you invoke it, your equipped weapon is changed completely.

Awakening Action: Switched over to when specific requirements are met. While it’s invoked, your abilities raise drastically and your unparalleled display of power changes to an “awakening display of power.” When you defeat a large number of enemies with this display of power, it becomes an even more powerful and showy technique called “truly awakened display of power.” It becomes easier to obtain EXP items when you defeat enemies in this state.

There are over 70 characters in Dynasty Warriors 8. Like Dynasty Warriors 7, a lot of effort is being put into the game’s story mode. It kicks off with the opening sequence from the first Dynasty Warriors.

The next new commander to be introduced will be a man from the Wu dynasty. The concept is to become an infinitely deepening (but not evolving) mighty warrior. Character operation is smoother than previous games. Enemy soldiers make use of a drawing method called “Deferred Lighting,” which helps to prevent processing as much as possible.

In Dynasty Warriors 7, players were forced to march down pre-determined routes. But in 8, you’ll be able to travel with more freedom.

Of course, action is a major selling point. The degree of difficulty is low, however, and attacking consecutively with one button is also supported.

Free mode has made a return. And there will also be a new mode. Omega Force is doing their best to make co-op play better than previous titles. They even want to do a story mode for co-op.

I feel like it'll follow in WO3 footsteps for us. Digital release only for PS3, hard copy for 360, JP audio only for both versions.

I didn't want WO3 on 360 but I had no choice. Need a bigger HDD and better internet before I can even play OP on PS3. Have a feeling it will be DL onry too.

I'm hoping because this is Koei's "main" franchise they'll do a boxed version of both, but who knows. The last two games set a bad precedent. Like i've said twice already, it's the lack of each officer having unique movesets that worries me. If they all have unique sets? Game has replay value for me like a motherfucker. I put in soooo much time into DW3 because of this. Still one of my all time fav games. I'll happily download this if they do.
