FFXI on Windows 8

I have searched a few forums and tried everything I could find and figured I'd trying coming here to see if I could get this game working before trying something different.

When I load FFXI on Windows 8 there are no characters shown (not my character, other ppl, nor NPCs). I've tried running it in compatibility modes, downloading the POL version for 7 and running that in a compatibility mode, re-installing and nothing seems to work just yet.

If anyone knows how I could get this working and would help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

Not a windows 8 issue. I'm running it on WIn8 just fine with a vanilla install.

Same. I had no issues running FFXI on Win8, vanilla install or after modifications to make it more graphically appealing. Windower requires more work to... work, but details on how to make it work with Win8 are on their forums.

My guess is that you have a graphical configuration / driver issue.

I got the same issue here when trying to run my game under Intel HD 4000 (onboard) graphics, only when I switched to dedicated graphics did it fix itself.

It sounds like you got the same issue. Which wouldn't be surprising as you probably have a new PC or laptop with Win8 on it and decided to put FFXI on it.

Running Win7 here.

I'm not sure if there is a fix for that, I've looked and couldn't find any personally.

Are they good at fixing issues? Or providing some fix/patch? I personally doubt it but you'll never know.

I got ffxi windower running fine on Win8 now. You need to go into your graphics card, it's probably the Intel HD 3000/4000. Select to update driver, select to choose from a list, there should be one that has "(...WDDM)". So it will say like Intel HD 4000 (something something WDDM), select that one. Restart computer to apply settings and everything has been working great so far for me!

not to necro but im having this same problem.... update drivers... game worked fine everything running smooth ... maybe hour later screen goes white restart game characters not loading Any ideas really giving me a headache?

Windows updating will reset the fix.

thank you for the tutorial response =) well worked fine for 2 days went on vacation for a week came back and charactters aren't loading are u saying every time cpu updates I have to do that with the driver?

Yes.
My cousin had to do the change again recently.
When Windows updates it will set it back.
