GPU lags when PC is first turned on.

This doesn't happen all the time and it may not be that much of an issue (I hope). But when I turn my PC on and log into FFXIV (it could be any game... just only playing that atm lol) for the first 5+/- minutes my GPU will lag really hard for a second or so then go back to normal, this happens every 20-30 seconds. Now after 5ish minutes it will completely disappear and not happen again. Kinda curious why this is happening most of the time when I first turn on my PC (most of the time, not all of the time though D: ).

Intermittent issues like this are always hard to diagnose but you can try a few things...

    - I'm assuming since it does eventually work its slowdown out that you have sufficient power making it to the card but in case I would still make sure your power is completely hooked up to the card and its not loose.
    - I would uninstall your graphics driver and all nvidia extra software you have and completely take the card out and boot it up once without it (only really applicable if you have on board graphics and an on board display output)
    - Reinstall the graphics drivers you'll be using and try again after that.
    - If it still persists you can try a new power supply.
    - You can try relocating the card to another pci-e 16x slot if you have one open.
    - If all of that fails you're probably looking at a bad motherboard...

Does it do the same thing if your computer has been on for a while before you run ffxiv? If not, I'd guess it's windows (or other programs) still doing some stuff in the background after booting up. Checking for updates, etc.

Haven't got around to testing much, whenever I turn on my PC I go straight to 14 lol. But the other day I turned on my PC and let it run for a while, then when I got into 14 it didn't lag. However I told windows to never check for updates, and I haven't installed anything new recently so nothing else should be updating or installing.

Could check startup tab on msconfig and anything listed in the Task Scheduler Library, maybe look through process list and/or run virus scans.

Could be superfetch loading stuff up. If you're on windows 7, run msconfig and see what's in the startup tab. It's probably just loading a bunch of stuff when you boot up and needs a few minutes. Open task manager when you log in and then see how long it takes to go to 0% utilization and stay there.

I turned tons of stuff off in msconfig a long time ago, double checked and it's very minimal still.

Update. My GF turned my PC on this morning to heat the house up a little (lol) while I was still asleep, got up maybe 30 mins later and the issue happened. So it's not only at start up it seems, granted it didn't last AS long when the PC had been on for a while. Another thing to note, which I probably should have mentioned before is I think my PSU is whining. Doesn't sound like a coil whine from a video card as it comes in and out and isn't 100% constant, also like the gpu lag the whine stops after 5-10ish minutes or so. Which probably means the issues are one in the same
