Baby steps: Worth it to do single pop Delve NM's vs. full fight?

Yes, I know. Delve is easymode, yadayadayada.

Is it reasonable to do lower-tier Delve monsters as "practice runs" for folks just by popping them with shards instead of going into a full-on fracture fight? My LS is...well, relatively casual, but they're getting their act together on Skirmish runs for weapons and armor.

Would farming shard I-II-III monsters be a good way to gear up and get people KI's outside of fractures? Are any of them reasonably 6-man or do we want to have alliances throwing ourselves at these mobs?

If you do them for practice, then practice them with what you'll use at fracture. Knowing the mechanics and having astute members is what makes these fights easy. Don't expect quick wins if your members haven't experienced the fights prior.

I don't. But I want people to get used to them in a less chaotic setting first. If they pick up a KI or item here and there along the way, good. Getting folks introduced to the NM's without the surrounding distractions is the main idea.

I am sort of in the same boat. Casual friends left in LS that hate pickup shouts and grew to hate ppl during their time in FFXI lol

On the bright side we 4-manned Volatile Matamata and Perdurable Raptor during a run inside the Morimar fracture with 2 War WHM SCH in Skirmish gear to get them started on the earring set.

Also did Faded Craklaw and Unfettered Twitherym with the same setup outside for low tier KIs.

That gives me good feelings for doing those 6-man outside Delve. The more people I've got familiar with the fight outside, the easier it should be to handle inside.

Being familiar with the NMs, what needs to be done, and usually more importly, what NOT to do is a big boost.

Well at this point it kinda sounds like you need to get people with gear from them before trying to do a full nm fracture run anyways. So it comes down to practicing for real ie in fracture dealing with links and messages (don't have to fight nms you aren't practicing on) which has the benefit of more plasm and more equip drops or easy mode outside with a small chance of bead

Right. I figure the more lower-tier gear they've got before full runs the better, anyway. Not that I think we're going to spank Tojil or something, but even "semi-pure" tier gear is enough to give the less casual folks a taste for the good stuff and/or a better chance of getting in on a shout group for a fracture.

That the current LS lead is literally stuck in Abyssea thanks to having a old computer drives me up a wall, and I've been trying to think of ways to get around it on smaller scales. This helps.

Edit silly question: Does TH work on Delve monsters popped out in the open?

I'm the resident TH bitch in the LS, so it means I may be more THF than COR for these. Good to know.

Unless you're trying for beads, I'd suggest just practicing in delve.

2nd. It's really not hectic inside the zone. The only hectic part is for the puller, stunners, pt swapping brd/cors otherwise, you stand in one spot killing a NM. Once that NM is dead you kill the next one. In general, you fight in an area where there is no agro. Start with Tojil, gear your mnks, then move onto bee/shark. You'll be able to kill the NMs once you learn their gimmicks. Someone used the example of matama (sp), you don't need 6, we have 1 mnk prepping it and I'm keeping him occasionally healed while focusing on my pt. Once he says matama is ready, a 2nd mnk goes and joins him, and the mob evaporates in 3 seconds.

I would not take THF, the common shit will drop enough once you get regular with it and for the items that don't they can be bought with the ever flowing balyd for little to no cost. Knowing that your folks are also not geared to the Nth the lack of DD that THF will bring compared to alternatives will definitely hurt you more than treasure hunter will help.

Back when we were learning delve we measured it by progress towards the boss, shark zone especially. It may take a weeks worth of runs to get your pulls down so you can regularly defeat eft, raptor, matama without loss of time from mis-count on the preps or raptor 1 shotting all your DD. But, once you have those down you'll start focusing on the peiste/turtle. Once you have the flow of all 5 down it's tojil time. In short, I'd practice inside, the toughest part of consistent wins (in my opinion) are the pulls, stuns, knowing what status removals to prioritize/ignore and buff rotations. You won't get the whole package popping a single NM.

edit: i may be wrong here due to the fact that I do not participate in PUGs, but it's going to be tough if your PLD puller does not have ochain and auto-RR set. Our primary PLDs have ochain, aegis, and of course auto RR. Figure out your weak points, gear those people, and celebrate your slow but steady growth.

doesnt really matter if you practice inside or out, but inside you're gauranteed 1 item drop from every NM you beat.

Also there are things inside that you will eventually need to practice before you do a tojil attempt (pulls, positioning, killing adds, etc)

practicing inside may be ideal for ceizak, at 1k per entry server wide (5-6k if you're on cerb or sylph), but you're looking at 80-150k per practice run for foret and morimar, instead of 20-30k per NM attempt. And dont being up plasm, because a run thats "practicing" on NM's isnt going to walk out with any more than 2-3k per run

If gil is really that much of an issue, the airlixirs more than pay for the pop...

And if you popped outside you'd pay for the pop and then some!!! Events and gil spent don't exist in a vacuum some people actually care about those amounts and it's a somewhat valid concern if you are super poor. Though I might wonder if a group that can't 18 way split 150k a few times is sufficiently geared to make such attempts

Ochain isn't required, but it reduces the need for a babysitter to pay attention to you, and allows you to comfortably hold more adds by quite a bit. I say this from the perspective of the sch/rdm babysitter.

Who even uses PLD pullers anymore? All of the NMs can be slept, gravitied, or bound.
