You'll be able to kill the NMs once you learn their gimmicks. Someone used the example of matama (sp), you don't need 6, we have 1 mnk prepping it and I'm keeping him occasionally healed while focusing on my pt. Once he says matama is ready, a 2nd mnk goes and joins him, and the mob evaporates in 3 seconds.
I would not take THF, the common shit will drop enough once you get regular with it and for the items that don't they can be bought with the ever flowing balyd for little to no cost. Knowing that your folks are also not geared to the Nth the lack of DD that THF will bring compared to alternatives will definitely hurt you more than treasure hunter will help.
Back when we were learning delve we measured it by progress towards the boss, shark zone especially. It may take a weeks worth of runs to get your pulls down so you can regularly defeat eft, raptor, matama without loss of time from mis-count on the preps or raptor 1 shotting all your DD. But, once you have those down you'll start focusing on the peiste/turtle. Once you have the flow of all 5 down it's tojil time. In short, I'd practice inside, the toughest part of consistent wins (in my opinion) are the pulls, stuns, knowing what status removals to prioritize/ignore and buff rotations. You won't get the whole package popping a single NM.
edit: i may be wrong here due to the fact that I do not participate in PUGs, but it's going to be tough if your PLD puller does not have ochain and auto-RR set. Our primary PLDs have ochain, aegis, and of course auto RR. Figure out your weak points, gear those people, and celebrate your slow but steady growth.
