Sony Computer Entertainment Japan will make an important announcement regarding PocketStation, the original PlayStation’s Japan-only Memory Card peripheral, on November 5, the company announced.

A website and teaser video went live alongside the announcement. The website features the text “gokuhi” in the URL, which means “strict secrecy.”

The “Mystery Truck Chase” video shows a news crew who heard rumors about “some new kind of product.” During an interview, a suspicious transporation truck with Toro in the driver’s seat passes by, and is headed towards Sony Computer Entertainment in Shinagawa. The crew chases down the truck and stakeout Toro, only to be greeted by a sign teasing the November 5 announcement.

Unfortunately that'll probably be the case.
I doubt many in NA even knew about the pocketstation, let alone remember it.
Hopefully they'll have some sort of promotional thing happening at GDC or E3 to grab the attention of us westerners and create demand.

I played the street fighter minigame on it a lot (it came with alpha 3, I think?) :D It was quite fun.

Sony made a humorous video teasing a possible return of the PocketStation, the Japan-only PsOne memory card peripheral with a LCD screen. As it turns out, PocketStation will return as a downloadable PlayStation Vita downloadable app and users can play many of the games that were available for it.

The PocketStation was sold in Japan from 1999 to 2002, during the height of the PsOne era, where it featured many mini-games based on several popular titles, such as the Chocobo World mini-RPG from Final Fantasy VIII.

Starting today, Japanese PlayStation Plus members will be able to download the PocketStation app, free of charge, which will also feature mini-games from Crash Bandicoot 3, Mega Man, Ape Escape, and many other PsOne classics.

Dokodemo Issho, the PS1 game which featured Toro, the Sony cat, will also be available to download for PocketStation on PlayStation Vita starting December 3, the same date the app will also become available for non-PlayStation Plus members.

Sony has yet to announce PocketStation for PlayStation Vita outside of Japan, but if they do, it looks like we may finally get to see what the big deal was about those mini-games back in the day.
