Kindle Fire Apps for kids?

We have a kindle fire 8.9 HD, and I'd like to let my 2 yr old "use" it. I've ordered a beefier case and have turned on the Kindle Freetime. I'm looking for apps, and there are a shitload. Doing a google search pulls up a half-million results. Most are companies touting their own games (of course).

Do any of you have any ideas for apps to recommend? Teaching basic counting, letters, word matching, etc in addition to keeping him entertained for a while would be great.

I don't have a kindle fire, but I have an iPod for my daughter so this may or may not be helpful at all. Fisher price I know has apps for the mac products, I would start with seeing if they have any for the kindle.


Honestly though, even for my phone (windows) and my husband's phone (android) there are a million and one apps out there that are free with adds. The adds suck especially since a toddler ends up clicking them on accident. However, it's worth it to test out the program to see if they respond to it, and if so then you can buy the add free version. Just search for toddler and you are sure to find a ton of hits for alphabets n' numbers.

There's an android one (so I'm guessing might work with the Kindle) my 20 month old loves - it's the Owlie Boo packs... very very simple - a picture on a screen and if you tap it something happens. The monkeys one in pack 3 alone has kept her from causing hell in several doctors waiting rooms and the like.

Don't know if you can get the app from overseas but the cbeebies one (the BBC's pre-school TV channel) has a load of different things on it linked to the programmes but there's some basic letters and stuff on there too. The website's usually worth a look for the games on there as well.
