Thanks to the Pope and Jay-Z! :kappa:
Real talk though, Marco Rubio saying some exceptionally dumb shit right now concerning Cuba. There's no way this can be a bad thing for the US or Cuba going forward, and it was a long time coming. Must be still mad that niggas didn't let him into Venezuela for vacation that one time.
This is all just entertainment for people hoping for something to change. Which it won't. Also, Marco Rubio, what a fucking tosser.
Guess Cubans can look forward to 2018, as it will be an exceptionally interesting year for them unless the Castro Bros. kick the bucket before then. I'd also like to see Miguel Diaz-Canel's opinion on all of this as well.
Never thought I'd see this happen. Then again I have to think that at least a small part of this is rubbing salt in Putin's wounds right now on top of hitting Russia with even more sanctions.
If this goes through, I can legally purchase to smoke a cuban cigar without having to get someone out of the country to get it for me. Thanks Obama!
The quality will definitely go back up to what they used to be known for since they will have access to good tobacco again. Right now their cigars are kinda crap, but still alluring because they're illegal.
Which by the way, is a lot of fucking cigars. I think my nan is supposed to go back soon to visit, we's gonna have to load her up with cigars on her way back shiiiit.
While I like this as a step moving forward to normalizing trade with Cuba for the import/export portion, the prisoner exchange seems like a red flag to me. Don't get me wrong, I am glad Ross is free, but doesn't this seem to set a bad precedent on the incarceration of Americans traveling abroad? Or is that to "chicken little"?
Apparently it's Ross and an unnamed US spy.
I dabble is Cigars (not as much as Whisky), and Cuban cigars havent been top tier in a very long time. If anything they are pretty good. When I went to the caribbean a couple of years ago I picked up several, and while they were quite tasty, they dont come anywhere close to an average Nicaraguan. Nicaraguan cigars are the best hands down. It will be interesting to see how the cuban cigars fare now, as the only thing that really gave them any backing was the mystique.
Slightly more on topic. Im trying to figure out the down side to this.. but I guess aside from the threat of more immigrants.. nothing?
More cubans in my baseball
I wrote a midterm paper for my modern history class in high school about this embargo. I went into it not understanding why we were embargoing them and not knowing much of the background history involved. When I finished writing the paper, I had a firm grasp of the situation and still couldn't understand why we were embargoing them.
The embargo is just a third rail Floridian political issue that we kept perpetuating to the detriment of the Cubans and ourselves and to the arguable benefit of the Castros and satisfaction of a wrinkled old Cubans in Miami.
I hope Congress doesn't fuck this up, but that's all they're capable of doing.
Cuban cigars have been crap tier for a long time. All the legitimate tobacco farmers moved their operations to either Nicaragua or Dominican Republic, forcing Cuba to mass produce dry cat turd for the ignorant still thinking it's the 70's.
i was never impressed with cubans. much prefer the dominicans.
But Dominicans roll them too tight! /seinfeld
