Not necessarily, I have a Regal and a Cinemark within blocks of my house, both of them better than my nearest AMC. I also got my Moviepass for 80 bucks on Black Friday. CAN'T BEAT IT

I also live closer to a Regal than an AMC, but it’s a dump. The ability to purchase in advance and that it includes 3D and IMAX while Movie Pass doesn’t offer that makes this the winner for me.

Needs different tiers. I wouldn't mind 4 movies a month once a week for $7.99

Too bad the one AMC near us is a shit hole. It's only been open 2 years, and they don't clean the floors at all, they have no benches or seats near the theaters so you have to stand around waiting for your showtime to start, and the food prep is god awful. Only good thing they have going for it is recliners and coke freestyle machines.

Hell yeah ! AMC is about two miles from me. As much as I love Alamo Drafthouse...the AMC here in my part of Austin is actually pretty damn good. Always clean, fresh popcorn, good variety of stuff and Freestyle Soda Machine WITH Pibb Xtra. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE !

Not sure I'd even call this real competition let alone RIP

    Pros-
Get enhanced viewing (but moviepass has been considering this anyways and said they'd only add like $2-3/month for that)
Can order online/in advance (being tested in a few locations by moviepass)
The occasional overpriced concession that you'd probably get anyways if you were one of their rewards members

    Cons-
    Much more limited theater selection
1/2 the amount of movies a month (though doesn't really matter since who the fuck watches more than 3 movies a week)
Costs twice as a much a month or 3 times as much if you got your moviepass on deal. Which is enough to pay for 1 enhanced viewing a month anyways

idk unless you seeing on average more than 1 IMAX/3D a month I don't see it unless you planning on moviepass going bankrupt

Was actually thinking about it.. why does AMC want to compete with Moviepass? As it is, Moviepass is taking all the losses while theaters like AMC get all the benefits (they're getting the full ticket price every time and all concession sales, right?).

I got moviepass back when it was 9.99$/mo so adding a 10$ charge on top of that for AMC-only is a no-go for me.

I believe it is all about tracking viewing/spending habbits of the users. Stubb's already does this, but if you are a MoviePass user, the data goes to Helios Matheson and AMC loses out. They know a ticket was bought but they don't know who bought it.

That's probably why they charging twice as much for half as much lol. I think they even mention something about more financially sound price values. While yeah they wont make as much from those people as if they just got the money from movie pass I'm guessing they hoping it's offset by people having to go to their theater. Also not too unlikely getting some new peeps

Movie Pass is introducing surge pricing. Probably a shitty time to launch considering the emergence of a competitor.

    https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/21/1...e-pricing-cost

Probably won't affect me much as I rarely see the movies they will surge for on opening night, but still!

Wait that thing said opening weekend... that's a bit fucked up. But only for month to month losers. Should've gotten that discounted yearly subscription suckas!

The new options are interesting... get another ticket for a friend for the price of another ticket!?! Wtf is the point of that? Glad to know 3d/imax coming soon

I think the ticket for friend is just so you can get two seats together at the same time as most theaters have switched to reserved seating, at least around here.

I’ve actually run into this issue where having to buy 1 ticket at a time it wouldn’t let us choose certain seats

I guess that makes sense. None of theaters around here do that normally but normally pretty empty. So never really occurs to me

So movie pass sent some details out for the changes. The guest thing was exactly like Tyven said for reserved seating. Though it says for eticketing partners so might only be for the like 2 theaters that are doing that lol.

peak pricing is... well they use like 300 words to say even less than before. Basically if demand is deemed high you will get dinged. Kind of hard to really plan for something like that. But they giving you 1 freebie a month so yay. Also it seems annual members are only exempt until that subscription runs out. Next one they will be on the peak gouging as well

and more assurance about 3d and imax. all this supposed to be out in a few weeks
