I'm okay with this. They have an idea...they even have production value, they just need someone to come in with a coherent vision for the...series? Saga? Idk, but it feels so much like the new star wars trilogy where they have an idea and just have 3 different people executing on their vision for it.

Having it not be found footage is obvious since - in addition to it being easier to watch - presumably this will follow up on the original, rather than be another story from during the attack. I'm just hoping they keep it tied to the story of the first film, instead of trying to to include Lane and Paradox.
