Well, well, well. We thought at the worst that it was stuck in development hell, but in reality it was stuck in development heaven for 6 or 7 years. The love oven coven has concluded baking their second full game, the fundraising-stretch-goal-DLC-idea turned expansive sequel.
The game has charm for days. For example, many players loved Cornifer in Hollow Knight, and yet the map character in Silksong is surely more fleshed out, woven with context and connection to the player character in ways impossible (or rather, not applicable) to the predecessor. I find myself often smiling and heartily enjoying first meeting new bugs, both enemies and NPCs alike. Character voices are as lovable as ever.
The game has challenge for months. While some players didn't always enjoy the challenge present in Hollow Knight, many other players will welcome the fact that Silksong is more of the same and perhaps a bit more. Personally, I think players are perhaps discounting how brutal or slow elements of their grind through certain parts of Hollow Knight actually were. Eh, it was a lot of years ago in some cases. Honestly, I'm not sure if it's harder than Hollow Knight even if others seem already convinced it is.
The Knight and Hornet have different enough movesets and abilities, to say nothing of the huge difference in resource management and healing. She will feel moderately familiar to the seasoned player while also being an altogether new experience in both combat and platforming.
If you're looking for possibly the silliest value ever at $20, and of course are adequately keen on 2D-action & platforming and metroidvania souls-like progression, then give this one a purchase on your platform of choice.
