Technical: Lag from send (of send/receive) getting low?

I wasn't sure where to put this so I figured I'd brave a possible flame or two. There seems to be some technically inclined people at BG mulling around every now and then so I figured it would be a good idea. lol

Anyway, anyone have experience with fixing problems relating to send dropping below 100 and causing stupid lag? We always hear about R0's but I've been having trouble with the S number up top getting really low, like sub-100, accompanied with 3 second delays between macro input and activity on screen. I don't have anything new running in the background besides MSN and AIM, antivirus, crap like that, and I don't see any background activities that coincide with the problems, so I'm at a loss.

What's weird is half the time it's completely dandy and my connection's just fine, but the other half of the time it gets really weird and I can barely play in parties, let alone solo. I can also see how Utsusemi will get very difficult with this crap going on. If anyone has technical advice relating to this, or have ideas as to what may be causing it, please tell me. =o I'm on a school Ethernet connection if that helps, lol, school + FFXI.

Edit: wow, failure, I was wondering why I remembered a tech support forum being here but didn't see it

    BECAUSE I'M BLIND

check if anyone or you were using any p2p program, especially emule, torrent, or uploading ftp.

if there is, check if the upload for the p2p program is set to unlimited upload << main reason.

if there is some one who is uploading something like mad, usually all of your upload bandwidth will took by that person. that's why you got the S< 100. This took me like few months before I figured out during last time. And my housemate always complaining about the slow connection until we figure out all of us were abusing the upload with our torrents program >.>

i've been having crazy lag since the maint on oct 24th, nothing has changed hardware or software wise on my end and nobody is leeching bandwidth on the network, yet i get lag quite often, sometimes up to 10 seconds of pressing a macro to the action occurring, what's most annoying is that it isnt constant, sometimes (though rarely at the moment) there is none and sometimes its 5 seconds or so, anyone had anything since the maint? a few people i know have complained about r0 they never got before and another has been disconnected a few times which never happened before for him (of course could just be bad luck but its a coincedence at least)

I used to get this whenever my girlfriend would start up her torrents. Try a direct connection to your modem, and see if that clears it up. If not, then contact your ISP.

i dont have a modem any longer, i meant to mention that my connection is fine and i can play other online games such as FPS games without any trouble so has to be a routing problem somewhere, my ping to the game server is fine (about 300ms uk > japan) just actual game traffic is the problem

unless you're on a corporate/school network you most likely do have a modem, even if you don't realize that's what it's called. find the thing you plug into your router. that's your modem. another thing you might try is power cycling the modem and router. bring the router down first, then the modem, then bring the modem up, wait for the lights to turn stable, then bring the router up. i've seen routers go wonky and restarting them helps, though i've never for the life of me figured out why.

my router has a built in modem. Ive had it unplugged for 24 hours to reset my virtual route to the server and have rebooted my pc also, even cleared the arp cache to no avail, i have emailed my isp today to see if they are having any problems with routing to japan
