Tournesol Guide, Contribute and Learn

To those of us who want to go for the crazy-ass tournesol, lets compile a guide with more specific info than has been given. What I want is for people to contribute additional info like where specifically mobs spawn, whether the item is stolen or dropped, spawn conditions, etc. Original info from Helpoemer.


Greatsword - Tournesol:
Trade Goods, after selling off 3 Serpentarius, 3 Empyreal Soul and 3 Gem Steel


Serpentarius

• 1 High Arcana[list:8dba2]
• Dropped by rare, non-hunt club NMs with canopic jar and stolen from espers. Adrammalech is probably your best bet if you choose to steal.[/*:m:8dba2]
• 1 Feystone[list:8dba2]
• Dropped/Stolen from Elementals. A good place to farm is the zone just south of the teleport crystal in Nabudis Deadlands. Just steal, kill, zone to crystal, zone north, zone southx2, if extremely foggy steal/kill again, otherwise zonex2 again, the elemental is only up during extreme fog.[/*:m:8dba2]
• Stolen from Crystalbugs[/*:m:8dba2]

[/*:m:8dba2][*]1 Soul of Thamasa

• Dropped by Oversoul in Nabudis Necrohol[/*:m:8dba2]
• (Recommended way, oversouls suck) Can be stolen from Isteen who is a rare mob in Barhiem Passage. You must be part of the hunt club to make him spawn. He will spawn in the east-west bypass and zeviah span, and chance of spawning will increase by 2% for every 10 seconds your party is in those zones. Time is kept as a total so you can get 2 pops pretty easily with one timer. Do not kill this mob. [/*:m:8dba2]

• Canopus Jar makes normal mobs drop these. [/*:m:8dba2]

• Wildsnake in Giza Plains(Dry Season). Only one spawns that I know of, it is in the Toam Hills. I suggest stealing from it, killing it, and zone away twice to respawn the Wildsnake. Its a common steal and drop. [/*:m:8dba2]

[/*:m:8dba2][*]2 Serpent Eye

• Basilisk in Feywood. They are found in the 2 areas right before Giruvegan. As always high chain = win.[/*:m:8dba2]

Empyreal Soul

• Etem in Henne Mines(high lvl area, need at least 10 espers then speak to Geomancer in Jahara) [/*:m:8dba2]
• Stolen from Vorres in Necrohol. You must be part of the hunt club and must drag a Dark elemental south for a bit in Ivory Covenent. This is what I did, it wasn't TOO bad. Do not kill this mob. [/*:m:8dba2]

[/*:m:8dba2][*]2 Wargod's Band

• Poached and Dropped (rare) from Leynir in Nabreus Deadland. Make sure you chain, I got decent rates @ chain level 1. Your results may vary.[/*:m:8dba2]
• You can steal a band from Victanir in Yellow sands portion of Nam-yensa sandsea. Will only spawn if you are part of the hunt club. Do not kill this mob. [/*:m:8dba2]

Gemsteel

• 1 Scarletite

• Dropped pretty commonly from Emeraltas in Nabreus Deadland[/*:m:8dba2]
• Perfect final fishing area reward [/*:m:8dba2]

• Bune in Pharos At Ridorana. Seemed to be decent drop rate to me. I hunted the ones up the tower, not the basement ones. They're a bitch to get to but the farming itself was fast.[/*:m:8dba2]

[/*:m:8dba2][*]2 Hell-Gate Flame

• Dropped by Cerberus in Feywood (rare). Highly suggested that you chain to chain level 4 as otherwise the drop rate is abysmal. Poaching also works and according to some the poach rate is much better.[/*:m:8dba2]

You can also get 1 of each (serp, gemsteel, soul) as a reward from Montblanc. Empyreal Soul for attaining the rank of High Guardian. Gemsteel for attaining 8 espers. Serpentarius for attaining all 13 espers. Serpentarius can be stolen from zodiark if you're crazy enough to run back to his area after every failed steal and make sure you kill him when you succeed.

For chaining I suggest making all your attack gambits "Attack = Party Leader's Target" or "Attack = (Whatever element the mob you're chaining is weak against) weak foe." Most of the places you can take enough hits to outrun any additional aggro you get.

Wargod's band must be POACHED from mobs in Nab. deadlands, while if you are part of the hunting club you can steal a band from Victanir in Yellow sands portion of Nam-yensa sandsea. DO NOT KILL VICTANIR.

Soul of Thamasa can be stolen from isteen who is a rare mob in Barhiem Passage. you must be part of the hunt club to make him spawn. he will spawn in the east-west bypass, and chance of spawning will increase by 2% for every 10 seconds your party is in that zone.... remember DO NOT KILL HIM.

also Soul powders can be stolen from Vorres in Necrohol. you must be part of the hunt club again, and must drag a Dark elemental south for a bit in Ivory Covenent. Do not kill this mob again.

and ya change electrum to feystone.

I've gotten a few Wargod's bands as rare drops from Leynir in Nabreus Deadlands. I do have the Undead Monograph; I'd imagine that would help.

I've gotten 1 scarletite from the Emeralditans there also.

Tournesol is the highest damage great sword and second only to zodiac spear in highest damage across all weapon types. Other than that, dunno what's special about it.

25 eva, i dunno about combo rate though haven't used it yet. Looks cool though, gilgamesh was actually using it ;|

Edit: I was using ultima blade prior to this. The 15 Eva difference is really showing cause I'm blocking a hell of a lot more than I was before vs the lvl 65 bats in henne.

By DO NOT KILL HIM you mean poach kill them instead right? Well Poach is like their drop, its so random and rarely gives you the good stuff -.-;; Usually, Vaan poaches a Pebble!

I've gotten wargod bands by regular drop on chain 7, 14, 19, and 24 on Leynirs. This is with the grimoire item book.

You can chain them easy on the south exit of Lifeless Strand, quick zone through the little gate crystal area makes repops.

The second bestiary entry for Oversoul implies that you can get a Soul of Thamasa from it somehow. However, the guide doesn't list it as a drop or steal and says nothing about what you can poach from it.

Last night I took a stroll through Nadudis Necrohol. Purpose of the strolls was to look up some souls of Thamasas. I went from the zone from Salikawood to the Deadlands, killing every mob. Soul of Thamasa dropped 2 times, and all I could steal from the oversouls were dark crystals.

And yea, what is the secret behind the Tournesol? My charcater who I'ma give it to Basch, attacks almost instanly after the previous, with haste, bravery, berserk, and a cat-eared hood as the accesory.

took me 1 hr in feywood just to get 1 hell gate flame to drop

you misunderstood what I was saying. The mobs in Naub. deadlands are poached to get the band. But if your part of the hunt club and you go to the sandsea you can find a NM horse mob that you can steal these from. He pops about 50% of the time in the zone so you can just steal > zone twice > head back to NM > steal.


Damascus ingots can also be stolen from a rare mob(also part of the hunt club) in the Steppe area. he randomly pops about 50% in the area again.

You don't have to poach them to get a band, it's much easier to just build up a chain.

I apologize to anyone who goes to henne to get their soul powder. I can't count the amount of times I almost died in that stupid area. More so on the way out.
