    Shining Force EXA

    Has anyone played this yet?

I played SF Neo and loved it, it was cheesy story and very button-masher but something about the battle system and hordes of enemies kept me happy.

I was just wondering how this SF compared to Neo, and how it rates in general, thanks

I've only played the PS2 first one, Neo.

    It's really fun, lol

Shining Force III was my favorite game of all time. Imported all 3 scenarios & the bonus disc. I still play them on my Saturn every so often.

I'd love to have an emulator capable of playing the games from the CDs on my PC. Anyone know where I can get one?

After Shining Force 3, I heard this "series" went in the wrong direction, so I haven't played it since. ;/

Pretty accurate unfortunately. They just started slapping the Shining Force name on sub-par games, but SF3 was truly epic.

Was it really? I didn't like 1 that much but 2 was crazy.

My roommate brought home EXA for about a week (works at EB) and he played the hell out of it. He said it's a rather fun grind-type but the story really blows. Also said he made up enough fun though with battling and leveling that he didn't really care about the story.

Shining Force 2 was my first RPG, I played it like crazy. I've never found SF3 to play, though. Was it made into an english release? I'd love to get my hands on it.

It was only fully released in Japan, I think only the first scenario of it came out in the US?

Good luck finding it though, if you do, it will probably be $300+ for the whole game. Oh, and it was for the Sega Saturn.

Shining force III is comprised of 4 total discs.

SF3:1 came out in the US & EU fully translated.

SF3:2 & SF3:3 only came out in Japan, but are easily playable without speaking Japanese as there are numerous translations available on fan-sites and the game itself is very largely based on iconic menus.

I bought these back in 99 & a local import shop, for retail JP price. Got very very lucky to find them, especially for so cheap.

Actions taken in SF3:1 effect events in SF3:2&3, and actions in SF3:2 effect SF3:3. Each disc features a different main character and different members for your Force. All 3 forces meet up in the 3rd disc for a final climactic battle with all items & stats intact.

There is also a "premium disc" that allows you to play through very very difficult battles with your choice of any of the members from the 3 forces. Only way to get this disc was to have the UPC from each the 3 scenarios.

Truly a great game, with an expansive story, well developed characters, and very fun & challenging battles.

needs moar turned based strategy and less fuckton of enemies in an action rpg imho

Shining Force 3 was indeed fucking epic (I also own all 4 discs); those were the only Japanese only RPGs I have played through, and I loved every second of it (missed all the fucking penguins though ).
