    %&^%*^$ PS3 Wireless connection

I'm just about to give up... I can't seem to maximize my connection through the PS3's wifi (when I try to do a speedtest on the PS3 I get about 2500kbps when my speed is 10000+kbps....)

I've just run out of ideas, and I don't really know how to add the IP address and stuff like that manually, to see if that will solve the issues.

I also tried changing my WEP into WPA and other combinations, but it seems to be going at the same slow speed even if I take off the security settings altogether.

Maybe there needs to be some port forwarding? (which again, I don't really know how to do.)

I have a wireless connection on my Wii as well, and the speed there doesn't seem to have any congestion and works very smoothly.

I'm getting ready to just give up and connect it with an ethernet cable whenever I need to use it online if it keeps giving me a headache, but i'll ask here anyways to see if anyone actually knows how to solve this issue... I have a linksys wireless router BTW. (WRT54G, version 5.)

Any help whatsoever will be appreciated...

I second this.. the wireless on my Wii and 360 work great.
Is there some kind of accessory I can use since I am far from my router to make the wireless signal stronger?

My router is basically less than 10 feet away from it... and i'm getting a 100% signal...

If this can be fixed with an update, i'll just plug in an ethernet cable for now and deal with it until they make it better... but if this can be fixed by manually adding the information, I would like to know if anyone has any experience in that field that can help.

Ive found that with home connections sometimes WPA2 and WEP do sometimes have issues with online adaptors for online gaming.

What I would suggest is turning off your encryption and seeing if you have the same problem.

If it goes away, then I'd suggest using mac filtering on your router instead of WPA or WEP. If you live in say an apartment or townhouse where people seem to get on your wireless then having mac setup will prevent them from using your wireless but still leave it so you have a straight through connection to your router.

Also check and see if ps3 has any special port considerations, like does it need certain ports open on the router? If so enabling port forwarding might help as well.

I did turn off the encryption totally, and it still didn't help it.

As far as the port forwarding goes, it wants me to specify 2 numbers and then put the IP of the PS3 in... but I have no idea what those two numbers are (like, it says ___ to ___ on one side, and then you have 192.168.1.___ on the other side... so i'm guessing you put the number missing for the IP address on that side, but I have no clue what those other two numbers are.)

The first two numbers should be the range of ports that you want to forward.

Those numbers are the specific ports you want to forward, usually a range. Also, for you to even be able to forward ports you have to have set up a Static IP... if that is possible with your ISP.

From what i am reading... this isn't a problem that only a few people are having. There are quite a few people out there that are encountering severe slowdown on the PS3 Network in general.

One fix that is suggested out there is to disable the SSID on your router, though... that might mean that you would have to go back and forth, turning SSID on and off so that your other devices could pick up the network. Then turning it off again to get a better rate on your PS3... so that seems entirely ridiculous.

I am kinda leaning towards the belief that this is mostly a problem with latency on Sony's end... and that hopefully it is addressed soon. Some people, however, have zero problems with speed so not everyone is sharing your frustration... but more than a small few are.

Yes but how do I figure out which numbers go into those two spots to make the range?

Usually, if anywhere, they are in the manual. That was where the suggested port to forward for FFXI were at least. Maybe some forums, i will dig around in a minute.

You do have a static IP address then? Otherwise port forwarding will do nothing for you.

I'm almost certain it's static (not at home right now, but yeah..)

Well check here if you aren't, and it is possible for you.

    Port Forwarding by Router

    Static IP Setup

And finally the suggested Ports you would be forwarding. I would cross ref these, and verify that they are the same as what should be listed in the Network part of the PS3 Manual.

    1) PSN1 80 - 80 TCP
    2) PSN2 443 - 443 TCP
    3) PSN3 5223 - 5223 TCP
    4) PSN4 3478 - 3478 UDP
    5) PSN5 3479 - 3479 UDP
    6) PSN6 3658 - 3658 UDP

And, before doing any of this i would at least see if your connectino speed improves with a wired connection first, then if so, you might look into this.

When I plugged the wire in it was going at 10000kbps+ very smoothly, that's why I know it's a wireless issue.

Thanks for the links and info though, i'll try it when I get home.

EDIT: By the way, does anyone know how I can manually make an IP address for the PS3? (as well as adding the rest of the info like the DNS's and stuff when you choose to add manually, I have no idea how this is done..)... because maybe it's a problem with the PS3 not generating the information correctly when you choose to have it automatically choose it for you.

This right here would tell you quite a bit about your settings.

    DNS - About You

DNS Servers are determined by your ISP, and generally there isn't much variation in one ISP.

I tried everything everyone suggested, and it still doesn't work... I'll just wait until March I suppose... and see if Sony will actually deal with this issue.

    Thanks anyways guys.
