Has anyone been to Thailand?



I'm headed there on vacation with my family (and no, i'm not going to get 7 hoes and contract HIV).



We are going to spend one day in Bangkok and then head to Phucket for seven days. Other than cheap massages and parasailing and relaxing by the ocean with great cheap food, does anyone know any insider travel tips? One thing I would like to do in Thailand is to buy clothing for cheap in the markets (I don't care if it's not authenic brands), any markets people know about?

Any information of great things to see in BKK/Phucket would be awesome!!

Falang/Farang means foreigner, same as gaijin i suppose, you'll be getting that a lot. ;p

Shouldn't be too hard to find those markets, they're fairly abundant in bangkok, not sure about phuket, only went there once when i was like 6 (usually go to the sea at hua hin, little quieter resort town).
Should probably do most of your shopping in bangkok, lot of malls and markets etc. The PS2 games will usually work fine with modded ps2, usually the NA version of the game, sometimes EU, rarely JP.

Try to learn a little thai, common phrases like thank you and hello, what does this cost etc, and counting so you know how much stuff costs. A good amount of people speak english, but if you venture out on your own, to less tourist-y places, it'll come in very handy, and it'll be appreciated.

Not much more I can tell really, haven't gone in 6 years or so, and only went with my parents, so not much solo travel experience there myself.

I've been to Thailand twice. It's got some great tourist attractions. You can go to the zoo and ride elephants and shit. other than that, make sure to visit the largest restaurant in the world named "Toom knock Thai" or something. Their restraurant's soooo big that they have to ride rollerblades around to serve the customers. Oh and yeah, they have beautiful dancing girls to.

edit: oh and there's a boat-ride tour along the river over there. You can buy food and shit from houses on riverside, and always use a condom

I went there last year with a few friends. Spent 6 days in Bangkok and then 18 days in Bali. A few things about Thailand and especially Bangkok :

- 1 day is clearly not enough to enjoy it
- Get ready for a really really warm weather, it's kinda hard to breathe
- Thai people are awesome
- Food is great. If you like thai food, don't be afraid to buy some from the little food-carts that roam in the streets. Sometime it looks like a trap but it's not.
- Don't ask about drugs, ever.
- Don't mention drugs, ever.
- Don't even think about drugs, ever.

(Yeah, the day I arrived there , an English tourist was sentenced to death because he was cought with 12 grams of canabis resin. He was eventually taken back to his country and is safe nowadays, though.)

- Visit Wat Phrakeo
- Visit Sukum Vit by day : Big street with lots of little stands for cheap clothes and stuff like that
- Visit Sukum Vit by night (and without your parents if possible)...same street, different time, completely different ambient. Alcohol stands, lots of nice girls, too bad you also meet these 50 years-old German Bears with their 15 years old lady-boy :/
- Have massages
- Visit Kao san road (cheapest clothes and stuff)
- Visit China-town !
- Have a tuk-tulk run (these are little 3-wheels vehicles, huge fun for going from A to B)
- Have another massage
- Don't be afraid of elephants, they are the nicest "pets" you could meet there !
- Sex can be fun, and you'll sure meet gorgeous little thai women. But be sure to use condoms 100% of the times. Can't stress this enough, risky thing :/

Hello I am from Thailand. My country is most known for Hookers, weed, and as of recently lady boys!!!!! Please enjoy your stay. Some simple phrases you may find useful:

Sawadee krup (for guy) Sawadee ka (for girl) = Hello

Should be acompanied by a gesture such as the one in the middle of my sig. Meaning, put your hands together, kinda like praying, then bow down.

Nee Tao rai. = How much is this?

Tao Rai? = How much was it (like for a bil)

Keun la tao rai? = How much per night? (like for hotel, ya sick bastards)

Kor Mai ped. = Please not so spicy.

Kor ped mahk mahk. = Very spicy please.

_____ yu hnai? = where are/is the _____?

You should always add krup/ka at the end of whatever you say, for politefulness.

That's all I can think of atm If you see other ways of these being spelled, I assure you that they will be pronounced wrong, I spell em out phonetically for Americans. Exa. Phuket is pronounced Poo-gett. Bangkok is supposed to be Baang gor(gor can't be pronounced by most white folk)
