'Acquiring Server Data' problem

Forgive the highly sketchy description butttttt...

The blue background load up screen for FFXI after you do the 'I pledge not to let FFXI run my life' confirmation screen that goes through a series of setups including 'Acquiring Server Data' is crashing for me.

Every time since the update but never in 3.5 years before that.

It crashes every time at that checkpoint and only there, I am running FFXI on my PS2 currently since I just came back from a long break and do not have ToAU for my PC (and am most probably logged in whitegate)

Is there a way to fix this without uninstall > reinstall? I don't have my FFXI CDs anywhere I could find and my PS2 + PS2 HDD are older than jesus.

Since it was working fine up untill the update, and it seems thats its crashing during a communications protocol, id call them first and see if theyve heard anything similiar from others. Id try that before reinstalling.

Sure you didnt add/remove/change anything during that time?

Yeah I saw it after I posted, a few in my LS are having same issues.

It's pretty ridiculous, SE is handling the problem like they were caught running black OPs in China
