Anime Themes (Annual/Random?)

I've noticed (and a friend has confirmed) that some themes of animes come out together and stuff. One theme I guess was back when animes like Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star were released in Japan. I guess Pokemon and Digimon came out around the same time, too. So did a lotta maid animes and now with these "Shinigami" animes.

I was wondering if this was done on purpose and if there was like a list of themes and stuff. Or perhaps if anyone else noticed these things as well. Though it was kinda interesting to see what other people think.

and personnaly though... if you check around all the "varied" massive amounts of anime that come out, its not really following a theme to much.
Like looking at my recent... hmmm 3-5 months of anime titles downloaded I have...

(random list of very short and possibly won't make much sense but general idea anime details)

Shinigami/death god stuff

Lone person saving world from demon in ancient japan soorta love theme

Another world/summon gaurdian fight type theme

Army of special warrior fighting a "super evil" theme using special devices
Martial arts/fighting

Vampires/demons working to be accepted in society... or something theme

Another world, special earrings that power up girls to kill "bad people"

Horror storys(random) all stories tie to a girl that makes pact with people to send people to hell.

Internet type "virtual battle grounds" where people can actually die fight some soorta unknown virus

Young girls fight unknown virus that takes shape of monsters and kills people

Female magicians fight over the love of some master magicians son theme

Kids exiled off to another planet fight there way to get off the planet

Note with powers to kill people/mystery theme

Vampire city where lone vampires try to redeem their past by destroying some evil clan.

Martial arts theme, involving a girl that has to prove herself to another martial arts group for marriage type thing.

It's always like that, and it's true for everything. Just look at the quantity of superheroes movie we got in the last few years.


Naruto and Bleach are the biggest two animes, so it's not surprising many are trying to milk the theme with similar stuff.

I'm sure I'm forgetting other hollywood movies released mere weeks apart that fell into very similar 'themes'

Anime certainly has its sub-genres which never stop making money, most commonly the Epic Shonen Power Fantasy, wherein a misfit kid gets some even more misfit allies and they go on Some Quest to find Some Guy or attain Some Goal, all the time learning new powers like they're playing some fucking RPG and levelling up after every boss, and fights are almost always 1v1 where the entire team splits up and fights their respective opponent, almost loses, but wins in the end.

I bet all of y'all can name at least 3-4 series you've seen that follow this mold. And they'll never stop making them because they make shitloads of money.

One things for certian... anime has a higher uhh... hmmm "pervert" factor in the shows I'd call it.. I guess haha >.>

Pretty much all I've listed at one point or another will have...

Girl in bra/panty shot
Show alot cleavage
and or even possibly compleatly topless (or very close) usualy in the form of maybe shampoo bubbles on the chest, or fog etc etc

infact I got one thats a "teenage" show that pretty much comes very close to full nudity haha

It's called trend
But I think theme is not the thing that attract people to watch it.

It's more like if the characters have certain characteristics:
- All shounen character in 80s drawn has a manly look, very little to no humor in each title. Until around mid 90, they kinda change the character to bishounen-ish
- If you notice trap was not available until mid 90 and kinda exploited up till recently.
- Recent trend: moe/tsundere/loli (although the last 2 is actually the first subset of the first one).

I' m pretty sure there are alot anime we've not seen in the USA released in japan, just the ones that have enough money, and or good enough/chosen to be aired.
