    An aspiring Blue Mage

I have been interested in levelling blue mage for a while now, but one thing keeps deterring me: the pain of running all over the world, hunting for various spells. So my question is this: Has anyone created any kind of guide, or list, which states the bare minimum requirements for BLU spell-wise? Normally I'm one to get all available spells, useful or not, but in this case I'd like to stick to only hunting magic I will actually utilise at some point.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Back when the jobs first came out, I actually used a guide from lolalla. It might still be stickied there? Though I'd think by now there might be better guides out.

The spells are not too hard to acquire. Since level ranges and methods can vary a lot :3

    Only bits of advice:

    - Get sandspin from worms in sandy area (aka not Ronafare sp.)
    - For Frightful roar, go to Sacrarium due to the skill cap
    - Refueling will be easier to obtain from assistance from a BST at Halvung

Other than that, it is just going to each different area finding mobs you can kill easily for the spells you need.

I am sincerely hoping you meant what level to learn a spell and not what spells to NOT get...

Go to KI, there are at least five different topics in many many pages up to two months old of explaining NEVER SLACK OFF ON A SPELL.

    Why?

    Versatility.

There were several spells considered useless but they give stat bonuses. Seen MND setups using spells you'd never use but it gives MND so you can /whm nicely while abusing spells like Magic Hammer and Mind Blast.

    Also...
Certain future spell combos with new spells may come out. Sound Blast with ___ created TRIPLE ATTACK?? (not really but just saying a random job trait, I know it won't happen)

No, really, get all your stuff. If you don't have Sea, there should be less excuse on not getting it by 72 since the update.

Sorry if I ranted a bit. Lots of shitty BLUs on my server who have less than half of their spell book completed at 75 and no Sea...

I did mean "what spells not to get," since I've been told, and assumed, that a number of the spells would never see any kind of use (much like bard's ridiculous list of songs that never get used). If that's not actually the case, then I guess I'll have to deal, I'm so bent on levelling this job now for some reason.

my blu is 1, but i can offer some general advice as far as figuring out which spells to get/not get.. i think a good place to start is the job trait list posted on wiki... i would think that you'd definately want to get at least like 90% of those spells since most of the job traits ive seen/heard/read about are useful

Most of the spells, no matter how innate or seemingly useless they seem are good to have for leveling. Alot of the low level spells are great for leveling up and really you should get them. Some of them such as Poison Breath you may not use much but it will be good for the Job Traits. Things like feather Storm are great DD spells for awhile but eventually get outdone by other spells.

The spells are not as hard to get as people think. Most of them you can actually get while exping or soloing/exping. I solo'd flies in Pashow for Cursed Spehere for a bit and stuff like that. Really, I think xping on the mobs to get spells helped me level BLU so fast. Just find mobs you can solo/duo for exp and get your spells from them while you seek or something.

    edit.

btw, I didn't bother to get Blastbomb till like 45 even though i hear it might have been nice to MB. If you really want to skip some spells best I can say is:

    Get all Healing spells.
Get the best DD spells. Bludgeon, Feather Storm, MBite, Jet Stream and so on as you level.
Get any spells needed for Job Traits.

BLU nuking sucks, so most of the nuke spells suck.

About the only decent BLU nukes are Firespit, Mindblast, and Eyes on Me. These all average out to be around a Tier III spell damagewise with appropriate gear. Ice Break(which is a pain in the ass to get) is decent for the level you can use it since you are in the dreaded "crab" levels when you can finally cast it, and that your other spells are starting to slack off in damage. It works pretty good for a MB on a self Induration SC or a Distortion SC. I used it predominatly for good spike damage until Lesser Colibri at around 55.

Lies, lies, filthy lies. I spent at least 5 or 6 hours on various nights trying to get Wild Oats, Sandspin, Cocoon, and Feather Storm with 0 luck on my second character. This after I capped my Blue Magic skill by using pollen over and over and over and over again. >_<

My spell o' doom was Healing Breeze.

Soloed Dhalmels 14 > 17 (and 1200 into level) before I finally got it.

Mine was Pinecomb bomb. I spent probably six hours trying to get that spell in jugner at that spot in the SE where one treant pops every ~5 mins. I helped a friend get spinal cleave and he went 0/25 over 5 hours or so before he finally learned it.

I thought it sucked for me, but wow. x.x I solo'd from 15->16 trying to learn it which is no where near as bad.

[rant]My first 5 spells were all 1/1 in about an hour probably. "San d'Orian" spells tormented me, with Blastbomb making me miss Chris Daughtry get kicked off of American Idol and Claw Cyclone... *shudder*. Sheep Song was also tormenting, the funguar spell had me in near death moments, and Battle Dance was the longest to learn out of the 3 "basic beastman" spells. In fact, I think anything that is San d'Orian in the "parallels" between the 3 starter nations torments me (such as taking 8 hours to get my soiled letter on the Orc my friend and I decided would be our last one, whereas my friend got his letter on the first Orc), possibly because it's my least favorite of the 3. Wow, I really went off on a tangent.[/rant]

Tail Slap took 10+ hours on different farming occasions. Got it by luck when accidently aggroing a true sight Nix on the way to save the Astral Candescence.

AF gloves came out after I was 75 and then they updated the boost on the gloves for learning spells in a later update. Really, you shouldn't complain about learning spells nowadays except the first few
