    Fascination with disaster

I'm not sure if anyone else has really felt this before... I have this (imo) wierd fascination with disaster, destruction and all out mayhem, and the paranoia of some "end of the world" scenario happening in our lifetime.

I guess it started when I was little, I always delighted in watching tornadoes on TV. They frighten the hell out of me but to be honest if I ever saw one irl I'd probably be rooted to the spot for a good while. Bad weather always catches my interest. Here in San Diego the weather (for the most part) is pretty much clear and sunny, cloudy and warm, overcast and cool, basically perfect and essentially boring. I like it when it rains here because it's such a big deal and apparently no one here can drive in it and people stupidly get into accidents on the freeway. I honestly believe that the west coast is badly due for some bad bad trouble. And I wouldn't be surprised if it happened very very soon.

Actually to be frank, I think this entire planet is set for some cataclysmic event that will happen in our lifetime. Myths and theories about the end of the world interest me too. I remember hearing about the Mayan calendar ending in December of 2012 and that's pretty soon. What could happen? Probably nothing, but why end there? And then there's those quatrains of Nostradamus, blablabla... Hopefully I'm not really alone in this wierd fascination of mine.

Every era believes theirs to be the final one, and mankind has a sick fascination with its own suffering. I wouldn't be too worried about the world ending.

Nostradamus and Mayan calendar... <_< Can we keep it to more scientific evidence of the world "ending".

Well I don't mean just by natural occurence, as say a meteor or some plague, but the mythological as well. I mean you never know...

Actually some proponents of the 12-21-12 doomsday say that astronomically, it really is when the planets will line up or something (this is why the Mayan calendar ends on that day, because the Mayans, who based their remarkably accurate calendar on astronomy, had no idea wtf would happen after that), and it's possible that the magnetic poles of the earth would reverse, basically causing the planet's mantle (the outer layer we live on) to violently shift around the planet causing earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruption. Fun times huh?

    http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php

Here's a site that shows the ongoing emergencies, earthquakes, active volcanoes etc. They updated their site recently and the main map isn't working for me like it use to. It use to show icons all over the world map of where disasters are happening. Enjoy.

Ruling out a nukular holocost, the biggest threat to man kind currently is global warming, next in line is astroids/comets/etc. The Mayan calendar is very very interesting. There is acualy some crazy amount of pridictions that say that 12/21/12 will be the end of time for man kind. Some include Netbot Nostradamus and already stated the Mayans.

The Mayan calendar is ridiculously good at predicting events. Every event they have predicted has happened in one way or another. Well, all but one, which is doomsday. They based themselves heavily on astronomical calculations to produce this information. It is really rather interesting to read and learn about. As already stated the scientific proof behind this(a theory.) is that the way the planets/sun will line up will cause a massive pole switch, which has happened in the past history of the earth(slowly) this would cause the event to apparently trigger VERY rapidly which would cause MASSIVE tsunamis tornadoes earthquakes etc, like nothing anyone has ever seen before.

Again, the most realistic and apparent threat to us is global warming. This will kill man kind out if something isn't done. In our life times? maybe not. In our children's? If the path continues the way it does, probably. It's an issue that needs to be fixed, and needs to be fixed soon.

About magnetic poles reversing, I've read more that it doesn't happen at a predictable rate, just every few thousand years, though I've heard we are overdue.

Yea the mayan calendar is actually extremly facinating.
If you wish to understand how it works check out this site
    http://mayanmajix.com/lab_F1.html
It has alot of information about how it works and what events have taken place on certain dates.
There is a 3 hour video on that site that is REALLY eye opening, I suggest if you have the time and are really interested in this stuff to watch it.

i like how egocentric the idea of the end of the world is totally equated to the end of humanity, as if the world would fail to exist without humans lol
