    Alexander Strat

Ok so here' s what I have at my disposal :

    Blu or Drk
    Blm or Mnk
    Thf Pld or Smn
    Drk Rdm blm brd
    Whm Blu
    Cor Pup Blu rdm

K so we already tried this bcnm some month ago but had some problem, mainly on the blue, what's the best strat for this and what would you think would be the best setup out of the choice I have ?

    Thx for your answer !

iirc, the blu's only threatening attack is eyes on me. beyond that, we held him easy. have your nin, drk, or blu (whatever you bring) stun eyes on me and wreck him in the interum. i'd suggest bringing the blm/mnk on blm so you have magic damage for his last form (since i'm assuming the first two will be mostly melee damage) then sleep nuke the third down. can have your blu if you bring one help with magic blu spells. should be pretty easy.

    From your list:

    Drk
    Blm
    Pld
    blm
    Whm
    rdm

Should take it down without a problem, just Stun eyes on me and fight the BLU like Spekkio noted, Alexander is just an endurance fight from there.

An alternative my friends prefer is to manaburn over 50% of the Blu's first form, so his subsequent forms won't be resistant to melee. He seems much deadlier in his third form, and melee resistance at that point just makes the fight much harder.

For the Alex fight, make sure your PLD and DRK keep plenty of distance from each other and the rest of the mages. Alexander's main attacks are targeted area spells, no real merit in standing close to each other. Whenever I went PLD, I wasn't even in melee range, but depending on your PLD's build, he may not choose to do the same.

btw, iirc, his normal attack is a ranged attack w/ a small AoE effect around it, but i think i remember someone saying that def was a good way to mitigate damage from it. if you have your pld stand away from others and gear to tank, he should be able to well control the damage from it to himself and turn alex into a joke. don't quote me on that though.

    Hey Kimky /wave

When I did it I went thf/drk and we had two stunners total which was enough to stun every Eyes on Me it did. I had some haste gear on just in case I needed the timer to be up, I don't think it was really needed though. No resists from /drk. Stunning that spell and mixing your damage types in between reraises is the only thing you need AFAIK. Circle Blade can hurt but it won't oneshot anyone like Azure Lore EOM can.

easy fight, pld/rdm, whm, rdm, blm + x2 SC'ers that can make a ice mb.

i had magic damage on the second mob then just zerged the 3rd

pld/rdm for keeping hate and taking a ton less damage from tanking away from the mob.

however the pld i did it with was very well geared, d.ring etc, never lost hate and the fight only took 33 mins, thats with the 2hr killing our RNG so having 5mins of no SC's

The Blu's seriph blade on the third form can also be painful, had a couple crack 1k when I did this fight. On the bright side he can be burned through three forms: BLU's doing breaths or blms, COR spamming ra's and barrages, and the traditional beatdown.

Main thing is the stuns, EOM for the BLU and the self healing move on Alex that I can't remeber the name of at the moment. A pal distance tanking is usually best for Alex. The lance attack is physical but cannot be blocked, so earth staff or IR lance work good for it.

never, NEVER fight him on lightsday. One time we entered about 16:00 the day before and just ran into an impressive wall of roid rage after we finished the BLU.

Good luck and watch out for the second 2hr under 10%.

    Wait, what? O_O
Pardon my ignorance if I misunderstand, but you can tank it outside melee range and it won't draw in? That would have made things so much easier had we known >_<

Yeah, stand like 18-20' back and you only get hit with spells and Radiant Sacrement.

if you stand out of melee range, he'll just keep chucking his crazy AoE spears at you every several seconds. use your head and a pld should just be able to thumb his nose at those attacks. i think we had a nin tank on ours and even he wasn't doing all that bad. since they're phys (i think. i'm fairly sure i blinked one with the blink spell of all blasted things. i'm not really sure how that worked since AoE TP moves ignore the blink spell so maybe my memory's wrong...) so earth staff and other phys damage down gear on, and the fight should be a joke.

The bigger problem I've run into was not having enough damage (or having the damage get killed by an unlucky 2hr in one case). Sometimes he'll decide to use the self heal every 20 seconds, which superstition and anecdotal evidence tells me happens when the tank stands too far away (for some reason the best distance seems to be just outside melee range. Also, standing in front of it to allow the breath move may actually be better than being on a side, because the breath move is really weak). Beyond that, smn appears to be unusually good, because BP damage is consistent and avatars don't need cures if they pull hate.

ive been so serveral alexander fights, and IMO the most important thing is getting a good tank. (the one that can hold hate)

Tanks can have a little bit of a rough time on here. I'm not the best geared PLD in the world (missing some Homam and Ares and such), but my enmity build is really decent. I had to do this fight twice, and helped a different group a third time, and every time I'd start getting problems with hate once his life ticks down enough. It reminded me a bit of CoP6-4, in that depending on your setup, it's a very time intensive fight, which requires a lot of damage, pretty fast.

And please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but are his ranged kaboom attacks physical? (Excellent vocab, I know...) If so, it's lolEarth Staff time!! :D

Yes, they are. Personally, I love tanking this fight on RDM/PLD. I'm sure RDM/DRK works just as well, but sentinel+chainspell dispel is great to open with and the extra click of auto refresh is always welcome. Being able to stoneskin and phalanx is a huge help, though PLD can sub RDM for this fight as well.

PLD/RDM is how I went... Stood outside of Melee range, with magic dmg gear- and rocked him easy~ Kept hate well.. if you stand on the far side from when you enter.. total opposite.. you will have enough room for melee to do there thing during the right phase.

This battle was to damn easy, wen't 1/1 and went pld/rdm for a joke.. ended up needing it ideal in my eyes..

(was it magic? gawd I don't remember, I did him the night the final missions came out.. I don't remember)
