    Chocobos and Story Learning

I'm currently on Day 65 of chocobo raising so stats, for the most part, have already capped. From the beginning I wanted to raise a racing chocobo so I managed to get Strength to First-class with relative ease. In the last few weeks before stats cap, however, I wanted to see if I could get my chocobo to learn Gallop. Unfortunately, I only managed to get Discernment to "A bit deficient." So, for the Chocobo guru's out there I have two questions:

    1) Can a chocobo learn stories with DIS at "A bit deficient?"

I've heard the answer to this is a tentative "yes" but the only case I've actually seen this happen was when the chocobo went from "A bit deficient" to "Average" DIS after learning the story (which assumes that it was right on the border between deficient and average).

    2) Does a chocobo need to have parent status affection in order to learn a story?

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere. If anyone can share their story-learning experiences to either confirm/deny the need of parent status, I would greatly appreciate it.

You do realize there are multiple choco threads right?

You can technically get any ability at any level. However, different stories have different "recommended" levels to learn something "easily" (ie, in a day or two). I learned gallop on day 2 with a lvl 3 disc, but for the life of me couldn't seem to get canter until I hit lvl 4 disc. I've heard auto-regen is quite easy to get, while bore and burrow may be harder to learn than gallop/canter. As for "regards as parent", you do not need it (I learned gallop first try on day 2, when I was the level under "parent"). Also, why the hell would you have anything less than capped affection? Affection level plays a huge part on effectiveness of plans, so I keep it capped every day.

Burrow and Bore are just like the two physical stories, Burrow is the lesser/lower form of Bore. So Burrow would be as hard to learn as the lower physical move, Bore equal to the higher. (Sorry, I can't recall which is the higher/lower physical move. Nine of my last ten birds were raised mental.)

I have a chocobo question I'll just ask here rather than bump another topic. What determines a chocobo's weather preference? Is it the weather of the zone when you take it on walks? Or is it if you register to ride it and then ride in that weather? Or something else, if anyone knows.

All of mine so far have been physical. I just happened to read the ffxi wiki and assumed it was at least partially truthful:
