Well I didn't think so. But I was thinking about using them in Salvage, where normally I get ranged cell long before I get weapon cell.

In that case i recommend bloody bolts spam, they drain constant amount , even if you are at full health the enemy will loose same amount.
+ You heal yourself and do major dmg at start.
Especially when there is no one with magic that can heal you.
Pretty smart to be your own healer and always be on full health at Salvage and have the hate and save time and items for your m8s.

Land a venom bolt and then use bloody bolts for maximum damage!

Ok, while not very scientific but I've noticed when I have ranged unlocked and the blm has magic unlocked each of our poisons have no effect on each other. If I land a venom bolt first his poison II will not land, and if he lands poison first my venom bolt will not propagate. Now this is under the assumption that higher level poisons over write lower level ones. I don't have a mage high enough level to test out if this is true but I have seen lower level poisons get over written by monster moves that have a higher tick.

There is also a possibility that the Dot can vary based on skill/stats.

Or you can just go buy a venom potion, drink it and go off of that dmg/tick.

PoisonII is fixed 10/tick. They might be tied.

Well I'm just going off of what I've seen from poison I. When a low level mob casts it dmg is 1/tick. When your INT is well over the mobs level it can be bumped up to 3/tick. All things being equal, Poison II could behave the same way.

It only applies to player-cast Poison. P1 is 5/tick fixed, and P2 is 10/tick. I'm not 100% positive on this, but I'm at least 90%. I know MY Poison2 is 10/tick at 75, regardless of Enfeebling Skill or INT (Did the same naked as it did with gear). I'll try to drag some low lvl RDM or BLM to a starting zone to cast P2 on some lvl 0 mobs (Tunnel worms have 21 HP I believe).

    Tests round 1.

    Test subject, Combats in Korroloka.

Capped mark +5 merits for a 75 THF. 240 skill.

Shot = 220 dmg bat down to 69% HP.
Poison lasted 30 sec taking 5% of it's HP.

    220/31 = ~7 HP per 1%
    5*7 = 35
    35/10 = 3-4 dmg per tick.

Shot again = 195 bat lost 27% HP.
Poison agian lasted 30 sec taking 5% of it's HP.

Again comes to 35 HP lost, 3-4 dmg per tick.
    ---------------------------------------------------------
I have BLM leveled to 12 with 26 enfeeble skill

Tunnel worms are level 0 and dia does about 5-6% of their HP a tick.

Poison I took it down to 47% HP every single time and lasted 30 sec. Every tick took 5-6% of it's HP.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Also tested this just for myself.

Wasp Sting 1/tick, lasts 90 sec at ~100% TP.
Viper Bite 3/tick, lasts 90 sec at ~100% TP.

When I used Wasp Sting first and used a venom bolt after the bolt propagated and lasted 30 sec.
When I used Viper Bite first and used a venom bolt after the bolt would not propagate.

Gonna do more testing once I get something together for quick draw.

Are Poisons capped for PvP? That would make things easier. Even if they were, I'd imagine you would still notice a different if they were all lowered the same amount.

    Holy Bolts do, however.

Though I do agree, for the non-arrapago zones you were asking about, Bloody Bolts seem better than Venom Bolts.

Take it from the prospective of a THF. We have Acid, Venom, Blind and Bloody. Now Venom has a higher base than Acid but the propagation doesn't stack. If poison II is doing 10/tick for 2 min it would be better to use acid and let the mages put poison on.

If you're a RNG then yes you could use Holly or other bolts more effectively.

Holly bolts work really really well against Baldr.

For those of you who don't get the reference, Baldr's skin was impenetrable by everything except a sprig of holly, which Loki used to kill him, and is one of the reasons he was banished. Yes, I really did go that far to make a joke about holly bolts.

EDIT: Thanks Khamasin, I failed that one.

An obscure mythology reference is highbrow?
