    Imageshack hacked?

    ImageShack Hacked by Anti-sec Movement

ImageShackImageShackImageShack, one of the web’s largest image hosts, was attacked tonight by a movement called “Anti-Sec”. The result of the attack has been to replace all ImageShack hosted images with a manifesto for the movement (below).

The message adds that “no images were harmed in the making of this…image”, implying that ImageShack images are not lost.

From what I understand they're basically operating under the idea that the security industry has "gotten their way" to the extent that they're literally forcing software companies to publicize methods of exploitation.

Basically, they're saying the computer security industry is based around making sure we actually have to suffer from a lack of security, forcing us into buying their products.

It's a reasonable claim, as there is clearly extensive abuse of the system, but they seem to be taking it to the point beyond limiting unscrupulous taking advantage of the system and into eliminating the system altogether.

That was terribly written but makes sense, I guess.

Also, isn't there some irony in trying to rid of widespread use of security exploits to ensure that companies buy security software by.... using security exploits? It seems like they are kind of working against themselves.

Pretty reasonable method. Anyone can say planes are easy to blow up- its a lot easier to get people to listen to you if you blow some up.

Meh, I don't see this going far. They're blowing it out of proportion. Most of what is published by white hats is all defensive. A lot of colleges won't even teach you the attack methods that they put you in the business to protect servers from.

Looks like it, or at least the linked images all got changed to that one.

Likely through an exploit the group states that the security companies fully disclose. Only reason I would see imageshack as being their start.

Mine does. That said, their point is fairly retarded. Disclosure isn't making the problem worse. Whitehats aren't distributing further then blackhats are. I will admit that how some use disclosure is irresponsible, however.

I thought full disclosure was to make companies patch security issues.

What college? (Not that I don't believe you, I'm just curious...and would like to be able to name ones that do teach attack methods) A lot of Universities/Colleges, and even Professors are afraid that if they somehow are linked to the skills used in an attack that there will be consequences for them....which is absurd...but this is the nation where the criminal attempting to break into your house while on your roof can fall through said roof, then hire a lawyer to sue your ass while in the process keeping himself out of jail. Justice. (I am incredibly aware there are people who will point out that my point isn't likely, and while it isn't likely, it is meant to highlight the fact that a lot can happen in the United States legal system, and that there is very little precedent set for internet crimes.)
