Be very careful when/if you get one. Some states dont allow them. I know cali doesnt. Also be sure to have alot of information on them and a Vet that can take care of them.
They are under the same ruleing on laws as Serval cats are, so I would do alot of backround checking.
Speaking of which, me and wifey just got a Savannah Cat as an early wedding gift from her parents. It's 75% Serval and 25% Domestic. You might be able to find something similar with the Fennec Fox. There is no real difference between my Savannah and a common Serval looks wise. Full grown it will be 35-40 LBS and around 4-5 FT long. They are under the same ruleing on laws as Serval cats are, so I would do alot of backround checking.
The best thing about the "hybrids" are that they don't need the immense space (see zoo encloser) that a wild serval does, they don't have a diet any different than a house cat, and they use the litter box like a normal cat. They are also not governed by exotic animal laws.
Since it is a fox, I don't think you could get a hybrid...
That sounds sort of interesting, though. When I move somewhere with a decent backyard I might have to look into it.The difference in chromosome numbers (39 in dogs vs. 32 in the fennec) makes it impossible for the two species to breed and produce hybrids.
Man that sucks. Thats a friggin cool looking animal regardless though.Since it is a fox, I don't think you could get a hybrid...
How much does one of those cost?
Between 800-1400$ very rough though.
Alot of the times they will sell them in pairs, beacuse it is a very social animal.
There's more to Ace than just 487946794679 random images?
I guess?
Oh yea i maxed out my photobucket account. Your only allowed 1000 pictures.
Fuuuuck they're so adorable D: AND EDIBLE BWAHAH
how are they with other animals, for example, my cat. Will it try to bite it/eat it?
Is the cat social? It's iffy one way or the other mainly for the fact that it is a wild animal.
I guess it would be fine aslong as the cat shows dominace over the fox, and has it own place or room where it can be by it's self.
I want a Fennec Fox or a Serval Cat now wth
So.. Why should you be careful, will it eat your throat out? (I mean why would states ban a tiny fox >_>)
States ban them b/c they are wild animals. Also, b/c alot of assholes get them as babies, then don't want to care for them once they get bigger and just let them out in the wild, and they can harm local ecosystems. Serval Cats need huge outdoor enclosers that have a 4 walls and a ceiling. They can jump upwards of 15 FT in the air, easily high enough to clear all typical yard fences. Most states do not ban them outright, they are just banned to the general public. These same states will allow you to house exotics with proper permits (How much you need to pay for these I have no clue).
I'm not talking about this little guy specifically, but exotics in general.
No, it just might bite. They bit no harder or worse then some cats, but mixing it with other animals might be problematicOriginally Posted by Tricen
