Photoshop gurus halp. =(

Alright, I have this thing with my Photoshop that has been bugging the hell out of me since I've gotten it, and no matter what I do, I can't get rid of it. Basically what it is is this little 0,0 origin black dot thing with a horizontal line extended from it all the way under any text that I type.

The dot before I type any text, but I've clicked on the document:

Now, if you uncheck "Extras" from the View menu, it goes away UNTIL you try to highlight the text you've just written:

I had the same "Extras" problem on my old PC, only it wouldn't do this, it would just put a dotted border around the entire document whenever I made a new one. That would go away if you just unchecked "Extras". On top of fixing this stupid ass line, how do you make it so that you can't start Photoshop with Extras auto-selected?

For the record, I'm using Photoshop CS2 Version 9.0.2.

You can't remove it unless you drag a box for the text area instead of clicking.

The square isn't that bad. I use it as an anchorpoint when trying to line shit up with grid on.

Bleh, I guess I'll have to live with it... it's just that when you're dealing with small fonts/sizes, the line interferes with the actual font display itself and it look all distorted. Ah well. =(

Type with the font, then adjust it with pointer. Don't adjust it with the cursor in there and it will smooth it out.

Yes, but you can turn it off and keep it off when text is highlighted by hitting Ctrl+H.
