    Widescreen LCD selection Choice

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... u=320-5205

    or

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... u=A0964719

ignore the price diff as i dont really care about that, they seem comparable, the samsung is a little better specs wise, but doesnt say anything about a warranty... so if anyone has some personal experience with these that'd be great

    Re: Widescreen LCD selection Choice

Was in the market for a couple of new HD monitors recently as well, and went with the Gateway 22" and 24" Hi Def Widescreen ones: (They have more input options than the other HD monitors I was considering.) The 22" comes with dvi, component, vga and s-video inputs, the 24" comes with all of those as well as a 2nd component input.

I'm running 2 computers, xbox 360 and ps3 through the various inputs on each of these and they are very easy to change between with the onscreen pop up menu.

    22" http://www.gateway.com/accessories/prod ... php?seg=hm

    24" http://www.gateway.com/accessories/prod ... php?seg=hm

The 24" is great, no cons to note on it - fully adjustable tilt/angle/height, comes with dvi and vga cables, picture is stunning on PC, PS3 and 360. The 22" has a small bit of backlight bleeding noticeable if you are watching a dark movie with low room lighting (aka 300) and you have to buy the dvi cable and adjustable stand separately (it comes with a stationary stand, but has no tilt etc on the standard stand.)

    Sorry I can't comment on the Dell/Samsung options ~

I have the gateway FPD2275W, Very good monitor.

There is backlight bleed on the bottom and top but that is normal because all LCDs use the same shit so you can't really avoid it.

Dude, check http://www.newegg.com and http://www.pricewatch.com. You can get a 22" monitor that's better then Dell for way less.

Right on bro. Just thought I'd throw some other options out there so you didn't have to pay as much.

The newegg thing doesnt' hold true really for 22inch and 24inch monitors really. I bought my 22inch from Dell, I got the Dell, not the samsung. I honestly liked the colors on my old 19inch samsung lcd better, I could never get them close to the same and the samsung always prevailed. Blahblah same parts same manufacturer, whatever, the samsung looked better.

I didn't get an extended warranty on my Monitor, If anything happened to it I'd replace it with a different monitor completely (a samsung or gateway). I'd say you should get the samsung, they're about equal but i've always been happier with them monitor wise. My next will moet likley be the gateway though. Or that sharp aquos, that should be a nice monitor, 32inches of 1080p lovin.

edit: what i meant about newegg is, if you want a good 22inch you're gonna spend 300$ give or take no matter what. The models they have for less than 300 don't match up to the ones at 300-350. So just suck up and spend a few bucks more, you get what you pay for in this case.

The only thing that has prevented me (before) from purchasing from newegg is their dead pixel policy. I don't know how prevalent they are in current gen LCDs but when I was looking at them (1-2 years ago), Newegg will only accept LCDs that have 8 dead pixels. Dell was willing to take my LCD with 1 dead pixel without much of a hassle.

But my knowledge is old. I'd still recommend reading about their dead pixel policy though.

I wouldn't ever newegg a monitor I don't think. You really aren't saving any money, or getting a better monitor for the price. The best monitors can be bought through their main companies with better return policies and warranties. If you pay less for a monitor on newegg, it's most likely not as good spec-wise. 22inch are gonna cost you 300ish, and a 24 is gonna cost you 500-700, no matter where you get it from. Like i said before, in terms of monitors, you typically get what you pay for.

    not counting deals you mean
    ~$200 on 22"
    ~$300 on 24"
are the norms if you work deals. sometimes less than those prices too.

I meant base prices or msrp yeah, but I still think you get what you pay for with monitors and are better off buying a 320$ samsung than a 290$ spectre or something lol.

on a side note, where did all the CRT monitors go? I hardly see any on Newegg. did everyone suddenly become accepting of ghosting, dead pixels, and limited resolutions now?

Instead of having 50+lbs of behemoth on your desk, more electricity consumed, flickering, etc?

i want LCD just for desk space, my big ass 21" CRT is huge like xbox =/

also cause i use lcds at work all day, and they are better on my eyes (i have eye problems sometimes... lazy eye + some other crap) and the lcds dont bother me as much as a CRT does if i stare at it for multiple hours

Hope you like it, I'd have taken that if I didn't get my Dell, and it's on my list of future purchases for my other computers that need a kinda-low priced lcd.

    Re: Widescreen LCD selection Choice

I have a 24" samsung LCD, forgot the model number offhand but it has 1920x1200 res with 5ms response time. It is a great monitor in my opinion, no noticable ghosting, and the colors stand out very well. My only complaint is the horrible vertical viewing angle, but it doesn't bother me to much. If you got the samsung 22" 226bw, there are different models of that same monitor. The 'A' model is known for having crappy colors, while the 'S' model also has excellent reviews. If you get the 'A' model (I think there is also a 'C' model) you can update the color profile to fix the issues it has. Hope you enjoy your new monitor.
