    FFT

is still the best FF there is. Anyone else playing this now?

I finally got ePSX installed and working and I was curious how many people play it straight through or how many people play like me and sit and accumulate early on and get all the jobs unlocked in the first act.

I usually spend like 30-45 minutes per level just getting everyone to level 8 on the jobs before going anywhere. Doesn't necessarily make the game easier though cause all the monsters in random encounters are at/higher than your level and you can't necessarily use better weapons/armor until you proceed in the game(gogo lancer with no lance or samurai with no katana).

....I didn't really know what forum to put this in but i just started playing it again and since i'm at work and can't play it i feel like talking about it and if anyone else plays it like i do.

Precisely what I'm waiting for. 2 weeks is still a long time though...

    Re: FFT

I found the gameplay to be kind of slow and annoying (then again, I stopped playing after the 2nd battle since it took me like 10 minutes lol..)

I'll probably pick up (read: dl off blackcats) the PSP version.

Well it IS an oldschool SRPG. Compared to something like Disgaea (which is relatively fast) it's not unusual for the starting missions to take quite a while. I always thought it was satisfying because at the end you could praise yourself for something well deserved.

The gameplay was cool, but so incredibly silly and easy. The storyline is very interesting. I've gone back and played it a few times.

    Re: FFT

I just got done re-playing it about a month ago-- It's still my favorite game evar. The story is amongst the best I've ever seen in an SRPG, and the gameplay is nothing to sneeze at. Also, I wasn't aware Lion war was coming out in the US in 2 weeks, holy shit, /reserve. >_> Can't wait to play Dark Knight~

What game were you playing that was easy? The FFT I played was damn near impossible the first time you played through and didn't get much easier on subsequent playthroughs, at least until you get TG Cid.

The only difficult part was the battle on the roof, and maybe any other battle like that, where you can be screwed by stupid AI. The job system was large, and cool, but most jobs were useless compared to a few overpowered combinations. The same can be said for characters too. And aside from that, almost every battle can be won the same way to the point of robotics, assuming you don't get screwed by some weird factor. Oh, yes, TG Cid didn't help!

    Re: FFT

Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite final fantasy game. The only other FF (or any game) that i've spent more human hours playing is XI.

Edit: I'm buying a PSP for the remake lol.

Not sure if I should the Slim or just get another modded one...

    Re: FFT

nobody's actually answered my question, do you just play through the game leveling up as it occurs or do you spend time early on leveling a ton to access all the jobs?

    Re: FFT

It depends what jobs I've outlined for that playthrough. I'll usually get my char's Thieves up so that they have all the Steals, but other than that, I'll sometimes level my characters to their eventual job in the first/second chapter.

    Re: FFT

After Chapter 1, I always relied on storyline characters, so I hardly played with jobs. Thought, I never could send anyone away. That game gave you the worst fucking guilt trips ever if you tried to send someone away.

Leveling a lot early is going to hurt you more, because random encounter match your level. You will end up fighting high level monster with low level armor/weapon

Game isn't hard, it's just unbalanced imo (not that it's a bad time, it was still enjoyable). Stuff like the 10 high level mnk battle is going to rape your party, but that's just cheap, not hard. I never really had trouble against the 1st (or 2nd?) zodiac either, but not allowing you to leave the castle was just gay. Some job are underpowered/overpowered, but any party could easily get through the whole game as long you have some some sort of balance.

Not really true, the enemies you encounter are just an average of every character in your group. So if you level up at the start just keep a couple level 2 recruits and you should be fine.

It comes out right when a lot of my major stuff becomes due, so I'll buy it, but won't likely get into it until November.

Meh, not really, although some characters are incredibly overpowered from the get-go(like Cid), you could make almost any job in the game a powerhouse if you knew what you were doing (with the few obvious exceptions like Bard/Dancer/Archer, of course). More than anything else new, I'm hoping they rebalance the game a bit on the PSP version so those weaker jobs are more viable as main jobs
