So I was sitting around getting ready to go to bed, when I get a contact list request on MSN from someone I don't know. Its account renting. Whatever. I had fun:

I've heard of similar before, but it was about two years ago, well before world transfers.

Back then, there was an LS full of Chinese players on Lakshmi who apparently never slept, because their characters were online a good 23 hours a day. However, it was very easy to notice that there were clearly two "sections" of their online time. One of the sections was composed largely of the normal player stuff. They leveled new jobs, they did rank missions, basic sky and lowbie HNM stuff. Most of them spoke passable English while they were doing such activities, some quite fluently. However, when Chinese nighttime would roll around, they'd log off, and log back on as rather different people. The night-time players spoke practically no English, and spent most of their time farming goobbues in Zitah.

Naturally, this draws attention from other players, when you ask your English-fluent "friend" to exp, and get a string of kanji back. One of my friends (Vice, for those of you on Lakshmi) decided he was gonna play detective and joined their LS, where they offered to let him in on their "deal". They let a RMT company farm with their characters while they were asleep or at work, and in exchange they got a gil kickback based on how much their RMT buddy farmed. I'm sure if the STF had been around back then, he could've done something about it, but GMs weren't really interested because no real money was changing hands between the people in question.
