It's coming next week. Did anyone play the beta, or plan to pick it up? It sounds interesting from what little I've read about it, but I don't want to drop $50 on it if people thought the beta sucked.

I played for like a week or so. It's different, but still stems from the WoW style of gameplay (ex. solo play, quest system and reward, etc.). Its a little more active than most MMO, just on the shear fact that there is No Auto-Attack. On top of that the controls are basically an fps (mouse look, etc.) Theres no archetype classes so far from what i've seen, alot of hybrids as well as stuff not sure how to explain in MMO terms. The classes are in a Tier system, they all stem from one class, but branch off to different classes as you level, and depending where you put points 2 people from the same class can be totally different.
Endgame, well not even sure what they goin to do there, but may have to do with PvP, cause I can imagine that PvE stuff has to be quite interesting considering. Like I said theres no real "Tank" job and half the classes can heal one way or another.
Its different thats for sure, different being good or bad depending on ones tastes.
i played the beta for about a week then got bored with it. there was no hit detection really, you shot, you hit. same went for the enemies. for something using a shooter type look and everything to it i was expecting to at least have some aiming and using cover...it had none of that.
anyways, after about a week it felt like just another game with a slightly different look to it, nothing that made me feel like i needed to keep playing.
Another boring exp grind game. The guns were cool (gatling gun ftw). But, yeah.. another exp grinding MMO.
Really though if you don't want a grind game, you're gonna be playin... FPS?Originally Posted by Kiro
well theres some games that are less of a grind than others, so that they dont really feel like it. tabula rasa litterally feels exactly like your just grinding levels, as early as like level 4.
Oddly enough, the negative responses to TR in this thread led to me spending my money on Orange Box lolOriginally Posted by Coren

FPS are fun for.. many many reasons. After FFXI I pretty much lost all interest in MMOs. I play WoW on my friends 65 Troll Warrior for instances sometimes, but other than that I've been playing Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike Source all the time. Once Call of Duty 4 comes out though.. I dunno what's gonna happen. ;_;
nice pickup. orange box is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better, and will last you a lot longer :D
It sucked.
The Zero Punctuation review is pretty much head-on about the pitfalls of TR.

Combining something I enjoy with something I can't stand is recipe for at best case 'meh' and at worst case fail
Technically TR is a 3rd person shooter.
id only consider it a 3rd person shooter if it had actual shooter hit detection

...um, sports? Adventure? RTS maybe? (turn-based strategy can either be grindy or not). Adventure games tend to have low replayability, but something like Smash Bros would be perfect for no-grind fun that won't get old fast. You just have to find some friends to play it with.
