Favorite College Tradition

My favorite tradition has to be the Aggie Ring Dunk. You work your ass off for 4 years, and then get one of the best things out of A&M. Your Aggie ring. It's the symbol of the A&M network as far as jobs go, and it's one of the best looking rings out of all the universities. The ring design has been the same since 1894, and the best "tradition" to go along with the ring has to be the ring dunk. Basically, you take your ring, dunk it in a full pitcher of beer, and chug it as fast as you can. Here are a few pictures from my ring dunk party tonight and then my actually video of dunking. My official time was 38 seconds despite having to stop to catch my breath and then another to laugh ugh. I could probably do under 30 seconds if it wasn't my first time lol. Hopefully my last though...The fastest time I've ever seen was probably 15 seconds. And it's nearly impossible to not vomit unless you have that big of a stomach. For the record, the beer of the night was Bud Light.

More "college sports tradition" than "college tradition", but the entire student section jumping for the duration of House of Pain's "Jump Around" during the break between quarters 3 and 4 at home U of Wisconsin-Madison home football games is damn fun.

The whole stadium shakes...it's made of fucking concrete.

I went to the NU-A&M game 5? years ago now down in College Station. It was possibly the best road trip ever, the fans treated us great and I got to witness this particular tradition first hand. Some chick did it in less than 20 secs and she officially became my fucking hero.

I would have to agree this is possibly the coolest college drinking tradition.

Yeah, we're supposed to be some of the nicest fans in the country along with Clemson and a few others I can't remember right now. Walk into a bar with the opposing team's tshirt and you'll not pay a dime for a drink. I probably could have finished it faster if I wasn't drinking before I did the pitcher and eaten dinner lol. Oh and stopping for a few breaths and laughs didn't help.



And that mirror lake tradition looks like a hell of a lot of fun. We have pond hopping but it's not the same as doing it in the rival's college.

Oh, it's in Ohio. Found an article about it lol. Still, it's pretty sweet. I still wish we had our official Bonfire the weekend before we played Texas. But since our football needs a new coach because we've been sucking it's not as vital I guess..I still want to go to the bonfire at least one time before I'm out of here.

Yeah, Nebraska is known for being the "Greatest Fans in College Football" -- Hell, its on our stadium. Texas A&M fans were wonderful too.

The 12th man prep rally Friday night after the bar scene was quite possibly the coolest fucking thing ever. That stadium fucking moves during it (nvm the fact I was drunk too).

However that particular game was overshadowed when one of the buddies that came with me got laid out by a ROTC member with the butt handle of his sword. IIRC that cadet got kicked out of A&M for it too, bad situation.

Storming the home field after an upset -- OK
Storming the road field of an opponent that has weapons to defend their field -- NOT OK

Yeah, midnight yell is a pretty cool tradition too. I love when people are in the press box and see the signs that say "Stadium sways during the Aggie War Hymn." It really fucking moves a lot. Here's a video of us doing the war hymn at a basketball game...the video isn't in sync but imagine that ..but the whole stadium of 87,000+ people doing it.

Yeah, you'll get kicked out for doing stupid shit like that too. But I think I wouldn't want to storm a field after a game when there's our Corps of Cadets standing there with sabers, haha.

It's real. I was there 2 years ago, when it was about 40 outside. There was some moron down the hall from me that threw his TV in the lake. That year's fad seemed to be throwing away expensive electronics. Why people do that, I have no idea.

I go to a lot of hockey games, so I'm used to and take part of coordinated drunk chanting. damm that war chant is creepy though, maybe just cause its got the word war in it. as for college traditions, none of the ones I've been to have any that I know of. hell my college tradition is leaving one, and going to another lol. the one time I was at a campus'd college, it was a good tradition to always go to morning classes in my PJs?

Freshman, huh? I go to OSU too but didn't jump in this year 'cause I already fulfilled my duties last year. Oh yeah, and all the frats shit and piss in mirror lake the night before. That's another reason I didn't do it, I guess.

I suppose that doesn't surprise me, about a week before my friends and I also went up on top of the roof of the building adjacent to Mirror Lake (pomerene hall) and downed a couple bottles of wine, one of which a friend decided to piss in and then toss into the lake in hopes someone found it, we never saw it again but there's a few suspicions.
