    High Resolution

What kind of system is necessary to oversample graphics 2x without heinous lag?

I recently got a dual core CPU and a new video card and I felt it was about time to give FFXI a fresh look (tuned from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200; overlay is 800x600). As soon as I leave my mog house, FPS dwindles and control input delays slightly. It's especially bad in Bhaflau Thickets when I'm looking into that tiger/colibri/ameretat valley. The world looks spectacular but the game struggles so much that it becomes unplayable. Is this the cost of higher resolution, or is there more to adjust than hardware alone?

Try turning shadows off. They absolutely rape performance at high res due to SE's poor coding.

    my spec: 8800gts 640mb factory OCed, intel core2duo 2.13GHZ OCed to 3GHZ, 2GB ddr800 ram
my setting: max everything, resolution: 1600x1200, background(overlay whatever you call it): 3200x2400. (needs to be done via regedit)
result: no lag whatsoever, everything runs well even in crowded auction areas etc...

The x1050 is about as bad as you can go as far as video cards go could have gotten a 1600pro for about 15$ more on the egg although i really wouldn't suggest anything under a x1950pro for actual gaming besides maybe Minesweeper.

Doesn't the background resolution cap out at 2400x2400?

I'd assume "(needs to be done via regedit)" was meant for both resolutions.

I've done the reg edit as well. I was under the impression that anything set over 2048 (not 2400, mistake) didn't matter as that was a cap of some kind? Is that not true?

It depends on what generation of graphics card you got. Old ones capped at 2048x2048 like Radeon 9600XT, newer ones can do 4096x4096 (Radeon X1800XL).

Makes sense, just never stopped to think about it I guess. I'm running an 8800GTX so I suppose I could crank it up some more.

2400x2400 background, 1600x1200 resolution, DrawDistance on and set to max range [I can see Oztroja from just outside the zone line in mountains.
GeForce 7950GT OC, 30fps in dynamis.

Never had any graphical problems since I upgraded from ATI to nVidia, lol.

    Re: High Resolution

    8800 GTS, 1600x900 supersampled to x2, background rez 3200x1800

Shadows to normal, they totally rape the FPS but not NEARLY as much as on my old ATI. ATI with shadows is total fail.

Kinda blurry in SE windowed mode, is it a card issue?
