NA Playstation 3 + EU WoTG ?

Ok, so I have a NA Playstation 3 with the NA version of FFXI installed, and I live in Europe. It's going to cost me ~$60 to get the NA version of WoTG shipped over here, which is a pain in the ass.

I was thinking, since the PS3 can read all region codes[I do not know if this is true for anything, except PS3 games], would it be possible for me to get the EU version of WoTG and install onto my PS3? Or would the past NA FFXI game/expansion clash with the new EU? Or are the registration codes still region protected?

Just being able to use the EU version I would save about $30 lol, fucking EU.... hate this place. Always fucking shit up for me.
