    FFXI lore question

Why didn't the west empire come to aid the allied forces of altana upon many requests?

I know that the west empire at that time (and supposively still is) having problems with a war in the east. Did they not want to leave the empire to aid the allied forces to risk their defenses?

    Thanks

I am a bit confused now, west empire? the East empire is aht urgan, the far east empire is "no name yet". what is the west empire? I mean I dont know what is west of vanadiel.

If you meant the Empire of Aht Urgan, there was as far as I remember never an alliance between the nations and the Empire of aht urgan. There was just some kind of neutral "peace" in the past and to my believe the Empire of Aht urgan had the hands full of work in the war against the Far eastern empire and their beastmen.

    Re: FFXI lore question

Well from my understanding Tav. had close relations with the empire and trading, yet when the allied forces requested assistance/aid, the empire never responded.

As for the whole east/west empire. Isin't tenzen from the east empire where a current issue exists?

    Quoted from the website.

"During the time of the Crystal War, the allied forces of Altana—including Tavnazia, one of the Empire’s largest trading partners—petitioned for the aid of the Aht Urhgan armies. Despite repeated requests for help, the Empire remained steadfast in her isolation and dispatched not a single soldier. These actions led to the continuing diplomatic distance between the Western nations and the Near East. The Empire is currently at war with her Far Eastern neighbors."

So... any insight on why they didn't assist.

    Re: FFXI lore question

I think their motives for not helping were left vague intentionally. It could have been that they were too busy focusing on bringing Alexander back to help. Or that they were at war with the Eastern Empire. Or that the former Emperor was just a jerk.

I personally think it is a combination of 1 and 3.

I think it's just the fact that they were busy fighting a war with the Mikado. It would have been hard for them to spread their resources like that.

I agree. I think they just didn't have the resources to expend on the Crystal War. As it stands they came back to the Allied Forces for help with their continuing war. >_>

I don't think the former Emperor was focused so much on bringing it back to help. We know with a good deal of certainity it was Aphmau's father, and I don't really recall- but I'm fairly certain they never mentioned the late Emperor attempting to bring it back.

    Re: FFXI lore question

As stated above, it was a combination of the empire fighting a war on 4 fronts (the undead, mamool ja, trolls and the mikado/far east) the fact that Aht Urhgan had trouble with Tshaya Rebels/Terrorists and the issue that Aht stood to gain nothing from interfering with 5 more beastmen races and an emo Galka bent on taking over the world

Question: Tenzen and Gessho are from the same country right?

While reading this thread, I came to realize something: Vana'diel seems to have at minimum 2 concurrent potential apocalypses occurring at all times.

    Re: FFXI lore question

I do remember hearing i think it was at the 07 fan fest they were bussy fighting a war on all fronts, and had noting and on one they can space to help during the crystal war. It might have been at fan fest or a cs i saw but i know thats what was said. Seeing they are still at war with the beastman should be proof enough that they were not capable of sending aid 20 years ago.

    Re: FFXI lore question

It's not that they were fighting a war on all fronts for sure. Because their actions were unsympathetic, they didn't only deny assistance, they outright ignored requests. Isolationism isn't about lack of capability, it's a policy of non-involvement for other reasons.

Also everyone seems to forget that they kicked the Ambassador of Tavnazia out of town when it happened too. If it was just about being unable to help, would they have spat in his face like that?

I have a couple of theories on what happened:

    - They were going to assist, then they saw what happened with Lightbringer in Tavnazia. And for some reason that changed their mind (possible connection between Lightbringer and Gordeus, possible breach of contract in not using said devices?)

    - They heard of the Demons/Shadow Lord and freaked out. AU has a lot of myths about the Age of Judgment. Maybe they didn't want to get involved with Demons, who're involved with Odin. Remember, they have a belief that the Dark Rider would be the end of the Empire. Odin might actually be the one reasonsible (good chance) for Raogrimm's Transformation to begin with. There's a lot of hints that place Odin as the force motivating the entire Crystal War, but it remains clouded by the end of the ToAU storyline.

The conflicts with the beastmen seem to be a fairly recent thing for the empire. This is from the ToAU site:

However, through the generations, ranks of Trolls made use of their brawn and courage to join the Gigas from the north and the Mithra from the south in the mercenary trade. The Trolls' ancestors served as a mercenary unit in the Imperial Army, and were afterwards hired by the Moblins. The reasons for their move to Mount Zhayolm are debatable, but they were able to maintain autonomy over their mercenary lands (also known as Halvung Territory) by paying tribute to the Empire until the conflict for the Astral Candescence began. Thanks to the Moblins' generous technological offerings, the Troll mercenaries now possess equipment superior to that of the other Near Eastern beastmen, including naphtha-powered incendiary weapons and mass-produced cast metal helmets. According to rumor, the Trolls also undergo anatomy-enhancing surgical operations in order to survive in the harshest of environments. Their might and hostility towards Aht Urhgan make the Trolls the Imperial capital's greatest threat.
Plus what Yutuyu said about them kicking out the Tavnazian Ambassador.
