New Mobo for Christmas
So i need to git a new motherboard for a friend for christmas because he wants an upgrade on his GFX card. His old mobo doesn't have a PCI-E and i planned on gitting him a new mobo + 8600ish card. The problem lies with his CPU. If i git him a new mobo and gfx card his current cpu wont be compatible with the new mobo. I have a e3600 c2d 1.8GHz CPU that was inside a motherboard that got fried. Would it be risky to test that CPU on my current comp to see whether or not it works? If it does i can just get the mobo and gfx and give him the old CPU i have and everything would work nicely.

Re: New Mobo for Christmas
99% of the time it won't be a problem to test it out. Just make sure you seat it correctly. If it's just to test out, just hold the heatsink down to the CPU. This should be enough to turn the computer on and see if it post.
