Here, Prime is not the great, wise, and ass-kicking leader that we've seen in the show and the movies (both the Michael Bay and that one with Orson Welles). Here, he's an aw-shucks new recruit who "Trained at the Autobot Academy." Ratchet is the old veteran who actually saw action and tries to keep the idealistic but inexperienced Prime out of trouble.

This Optimus Prime cannot go toe-to-toe with Megatron. He can't even go toe-to-toe with Starscream, which leads to a sequence where Prime grabs the all-spark and then runs away from Starscream.

There's another development decision that seems just..strange. The Autobots land in Detroit in 2060, and after saving a scientist's daughter from a nasty nano-tech cockroach bug creature, they become heroes. Everyone knows who they are, what they're called, and so forth. They're celebrities. So…why would they need to be "robots in disguise?" I mean…that's right there in your theme song. "Robots in disguise…" it comes right after "more than meets the eye." Now they're just robots…in Detroit.

I never thought I'd wish Michael Bay was more involved with something. It's a strange feeling.

I'm a long time Transformer fan and I probably won't even watch this show. It's been getting gayer recently, mostly when they introduced the kids in each series. This series seems to further the "hey little kids watch our show and buy our stuff!"

And yes, this should be grounds for murder or protest. I miss the Transformers series where the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons was the focal point of the show. Sure, toss in some humans that pop in the episodes every once in a while, but only there as a representation of what the war means to earth. Can they help the Autobots? Sure, but keep them off the front lines.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next series features the Autobots as heroes that save kittens from trees and a Decepticon shows up once a show and is beaten by the power of love and understanding and recycling cans.

Kid1: "Oh no Optimus, that Decepticon stole my wallet!"
Optimus: "Don't worry, I'll get it!"
*Optimus chases down the Decepticon and trips him cause guns are bad*
Optimus: "Here you go, remember to keep it safe"
Kid1: "Thanks! I can now buy gum"
Kid2: "Optimus is my hero!"
*Optimus transforms into a tricycle*

I expect a check in the mail when this happens next series.

Beast Wars was pretty good. Relatively tangential to the Transformers Canon but otherwise well executed without the modern cartoon stupidity of The Diversity Episode, the Episode About Drugs or Something, and The Surprise Birthday Party Mistaken For Enemy Shenanigans Where Hilarity Results Episode (I think even G.I. Joe had an episode like that).
