doesnt really prove anything, but we can hope right?
true, i didn't even follow any of the links (too many people near at work right now) but the mention of the official forum being there got me excited...
All i have to say is![]()
until its on the blizzard site its all just a rumor. it isnt on the blizzard forum, its on the community site forum.
To be honest, how would Diablo III vary much from WoW? They practically bastardized the theme of the RTS series with what we knew of D1 and D2 to basically create the MMO juggernaut we know today.
1) Run around kill stuff to level up.
A given the RPG genre, granted. Don't believe it was until WC3 that leveling was incorporated with Heroes outside of maybe Town Hall upgrades. D1 and D2 were pretty generous with free-roaming within the designed areas and not relying on random encounters like your oldschool RPG.
2) Skill Trees.
The bread and butter of D2, but perhaps more of an afterthought in D1. Go forth, level, quest, get skill points, spec yourself, repeat. Only downside is once you set the skills, you're set. WoW is at least kind enough to let pay a fee to reroll.
3) Tiered items.
From the humble Cracked Sash to the perfectly statted Unique, D1 had base items, magicals, rares, and uniques. D2 upped the ante with sets, socketed items, charged items, ethereals (Fuck you Blizz, seriously), and crafted ones. WoW pretty much just yoinked the same, only people tend to refer to them as their colors.
4) Waypoints.
Not a revolutionary or unique thing to Diablo, but call 'em Flight Points in WoW and you'd have the same stuff as D2, minus the actual flight. Just explore, find them, you're good to go. A blessing for travel be it single-player or in the MMO sphere.
5) Classes.
Paladin? Check. Assassin? Rogue! Sorceress? Mage! Druid? Shaman! Amazon? Ranger! Necromancer? Warlock. Barbarian? Warrior. Alright, so WoW tossed in some genders and races, maybe even restrictions to what you could be. You gotta admit some of the WoW talents are freakishly similar to ones D2, even down to the names.
Honestly, the only thing I'd like to see about a D3 is if was presented as a WoW without the cartoonish look and not a dire emphasis on PvP. The potential for a dark tale is there, people will grind and item farm like no tomorrow, and it will sell simply because it is a Blizz game. Until then, I'm content with saying we've seen the game already.
I'm supposed to take a fansite putting up a new forum as proof? I'm not buying it...=/ I'll wait for Blizzard to actually say something before jumping to conclusions.
Blizzard seems to have their hands full with SC2 and the "next gen" MMO development anyway.
blizzard would have an entirely different team working on it if they did, so not really a "hands full" kind of thing, it'd be entirely possible, but it really is just rumors at this point.
Lol I guarantee you there will not be another MMO-type game coming out that doesnt emphasize PvP. You're pretty much asking to alienate 60-75% of the MMO population. There's nothing wrong with how WoW does PvP, it doesnt effect PvE and visa-versa...hell they even have PvE servers, so there's no reason to want a game to be limited in its versatility.Originally Posted by arus2001

OP, is your bullshit radar completely broken or something?According to some guys we may or may not know that took a screenshot of an 'official fansite forum' that has all of 1 post on it, ever, we believe Blizzard has answered fan demands for Diablo III
yeah that day it was, like i said i was at work using a text-only browser and not following any links. read it too fast.
Would be cool if they just added new items and upgraded it to Everquest 2 / Oblivion Graphics, a couple new mobs or acts here and there maybe a new expansion
i'd pay to play that just to see Arreat's Face in 3d or a Feral Druid![]()
I hope like hell if they ever do a D3 they don't make it an MMO. I''ve had far more fun with single player D2 (especially with mods) than with multiplayer. More support towards dungeon/mob/item creating and sharing (closer to NWN or even WC3 than WoW) would be a much better improvement IMOOriginally Posted by arus2001
I won't deny that some people play games simply just to fight other people, or outright screw other people, but that's a number you can't prove even if you tried.Originally Posted by Lockecole7
Funny, I'd still get ganked even on PvE servers when I threw my money at WoW. And if they couldn't kill you directly, they could kill quest mobs you're after, spam duel requests, and otherwise be juvenile. Access to specific, often superior gear being limited to heavy PvP was also a turn-off. When you're fighting heavily twinked old-timers as your first-character, their experience doesn't just win the day, but when they're hitting 2-3 times harder or take much less damage, what's the point? Sitting in Ironforge spamming for overpriced enchant requests and nobody ever taking you up on the offer?Originally Posted by Lockecole7
I'd rather emphasize cooperation over competition, and even FFXI relies too heavily on the former with limited mob spawns, poor drops, and a heavy reliance on gil.
It could just go in the direction of something like the Diorama Ballista fights, but without the scheduling (which is really only there because there's no instances) and with more support from the developers
Redundant features of WoW aside, probably the most awesome thing they could do is not have it run on a monthly fee. That got Blizz a lot of fans back in the day (Myself and two friends, especially), and when you multiply 9 million WoW users against the subscription fees, I'd say going in the red is out of the question.
