Cloverfield - Movie discussion (with spoilers)

So I looked at the other thread and it started out from when we first saw it back when transformers was released so I thought I would start a new one for people who have actually seen the movie and not having to go 4 pages in to get updated info and put right on the title that this post will contain spoilers as not to ruin it for people who have yet to see it.


I loved the movie, it was what I expected and I think JJ pulled it off.

but i know for a fact some people will bitch about how some scenes like the bite scene were unexplained and how shakey the camera was but thats me

so anyone else see it tonight and wanna share their thoughts?

What made it bad?

My friends were saying the same thing but I thought it was good, I dont know but something about a creature you know nothing about chasing you around it just made it good.

That and if this ever did happen this is how EXACTLY it would be, that realism is what made it good IMO.

I enjoyed it

I liked the pacing

I felt so bad for the couple ; ;, the best friend Hud (I think) I had tears in my eyes, he was so good, hes very funny in Carpoolers (ABC show), the one liners I enjoyed

I connected with the movie and characters, I thought if them as if I was tagging along with them (w/o the consequences/deaths)

The monster(s) looked hella freaky, if you go in with an open mind, its very entertaining, if you want a Monster Smash/Army Nuke 2.0 this isnt the shit for you, if you can take the movie as a side aspect view and not as a feature, its very enjoyable

Hoping there are sequel(s)/prequel to this

i went in with high expectations with all the hype they had built up over time.

i really hated the filming style, and really i would have rather seen the whole story than just follow them with that camera, too many questions/things left unanswered, it wasnt even scary at all.

I loved it. I like how the story leaves a lot to your imagination. I don't always go for movies that spell out every single thing for you at the end. I like that we're left guessing where the monster came from, why it went on this rampage, and whether or not the army actually killed it in the end.

That bite scene keeps replaying in my mind though and freaking me out. After that scene was over I actually felt sick. And parts of it scared the everloving shit out of me. But of course, all of this in a good way. It's probably going to go down as a big cult classic of our time.

about the person above said if you walk in expecting nuke scene monster godzilla style ripping up the city then go watch godzilla but if you want a movie that is a breakdown of what would REALLY happen if this took place this is the movie.

and I amglad they didnt pull the blair witch shit and just at the end not show the thing you went to the movies to see in the first place but they showed a lot of the monster and it was good

Disclaimer: I have not seen the movie and probably won't until it's on DVD.

The problem is, they did overhype it. It made people want to see it just to see the monster. It made them watch the trailers closer for a sign of what it is. Some even dug through internet sites and find a forum dedicated to "Cloverfield Monster". It made it seem like the monster was the focal point because it was never shown clearly in the trailers. Yes it seemed like it was gonna be "just another monster movie but from a different perspective", but not have the monster as a sidenote.

But again, the problem was over hyping it. It had people searching the internet, trying to piece together what it was about. When you have so many people entering a movie theater with huge expectations, obviously people are going to be let down. Some movies just fail because of so much hype for them. Are they decent movies? Sure. Are they OMGWTF THAT WAS AWESOME? Most of the time no. Could they have been better if they weren't so hyped up? Most likely.

Hopefully by the time I do watch this, I've forgotten the hype. Forgotten the "omg what is the monster" thoughts. I just want to see the DVD on the shelf and go "hey this looks cool" and pick it up without expecting an epic.

Seriously the Movie did tug my emotions, for some it wont, for some it might pull a little too much

By seeing the posts, I think JJ Abrams did a smart movie and the right technique

Some are saying it was bleh, not scary, why do others like it? shows your emotion towards the movie

The movie in itself was was a "Project", yeah it looks like I'm reaching hear, but if you think about it, the movie dealth with everyones emotion

Some people that watched the movie clapped @ the end, some just left in "thats it, digust", some just started talking to each other on the basis of the movie

As I'm sitting here typing, I still feel sad for Hud, the chewing and death he succumbed to, the couple Ryan and Beth under the rubble, the black girl (sorry name eludes me Elly I think?) is she safe, Josh for dieing so abruptly

I really want to go see the movie again, it was something different, perspectively

I have seen my share Monsters movies, dramas, oscar award winning epic movies, comedy, almost every genre, and some characters just latch onto people, and so far my brain is still thinking about Hud/Beth/Ryan/hell even the monster

You cant say that shit was epic @ the end, when the copter goes down, an dthe monster looks staright down @ Hud and just chews him up, and you see his lifeless body, and his friends screaming helplessly and nothing they can do, it tugs your emotions

Seriously this movie makes me miss my friends, and I just want to Hug 'em right now ; ;

Also the bite part if you were paying attention to the soldier that was on the gerny about 1 min before it showed her bleeding it shows that his stomach/chest area has a huge hole in it kinda like the lungs burst open or something

Just saw it myself. Thought it was freaking awesome. so mad that i left out the theatre though at the end to hear waht was said I also missed the part where it showed the water next to the carosel, someone should post that! lol

Lame. If anyone didn't know their is acutally going to be a manga to this movie, I believe a 4 part manga. Think the first chapter comes out in like two weeks.
