    Sins of a Solar Empire

Anyone play this game? I'm loving it. One small map can take hours. Looking for people to play with/against online. If you love strategy games, you should check this out.

It's gotten good reviews on various gaming sites:

I tend not to buy games off of Steam if they aren't made by Valve anymore. Vampires: The Last Masquerade and X-3 Reunion have made me incredibly wary.

This game is great. I'll play anytime. PM me for my AIM screen name.

To the above posters, the system requirements are rather low. My system is decent at best and I play everything maxed out at 30+ fps all the time. Also, it's distributed by Stardock, I'm not sure if its even available through Steam or not. Who the fuck decides to play a game based on if Valve releases it or not anyway? If you like space strategy and games like Galatic Civilizations, Civ4, ect, you owe it to yourself to check this out.

I've never played GalCiv but I loved MOO2 and Civ 4 so I think I'm reasonably qualified to love this game. Maybe I'll find a demo or something. In any case, I'm going to have my gaming schedule full soon with SSBB lol

It's certainly a unique expierence... there's never been a game quite like this that effectively pulls off a Space Empire game and make it real time. Typical Civ games are all turn based, everything plays out in real time in Sins but it's pulled off really well. A simple explorer-like tree on the left side of the screen is a awesome innovation that lets you keep track of planets, structure, ships, ect in each of your systems. You can micromanage from there if battles get too large to point and click (which they often do).

There's no demo for the game, I think one's on the way though. Everyone I know who's played it has enjoyed it, but I don't think any previous game can really compare to this.

The demo isnt for enjoyment testing, its for whether my damn PC can work it. That's main reason I give a flying dingo's tit about PC game demos.

Many people have stated that it runs fine on their low end machines.

If you are a fan of strategy games in general, I recommend trying this game out. It's really cool seeing a 200+ ship battle commence. It has somewhat of a learning curve, it'll take a day or two to grasp it. It gobbles up your time when you get into it. You can start playing it during the afternoon, next thing you know it's midnight.

I rarely use the explorer tree in Sins other than for micromanaging battles. I find it easier to just find the planet when zoomed out and just clicking on it.

I've played it. My only complaint is that everything in the game takes 4 million years to accomplish. Everything about it is absoultely wonderful and perfect, as long as you have 5 hours to dedicate to a single game. I wish I was exaggerating. I could play for 2 hours and be barely started on a single Easy difficulty campaign against the computer. I don't play it now because I simply don't have the time to devote.

Does the game have full 3d space?

I tried the GalCiv2 demo awhile back, and while I enjoyed the setup and everything (especially the ship editor), the 2d-playing field (from what I recall at any rate) didn't sit well with me. I would have rather just grabbed my old Alpha Centauri CD and play that to get my fix of 4X sci-fi.
(Which I've unfortunately spent extremely little time playing. You know, I'd bet Alpha Centauri would be awesome on the DS. A title with massive replay value and depth, but is short-burst friendly because of its turn-based nature, and the fact that putting the DS into sleep mode to play later on in the day is a joke)

It's not full 3d. The camera is free floating so you can move it all around, and you can see that some ships will be above or below the plane. It's not something you can control though, and seems to happen at random. Still, was never an issue to me, and I think the game is worth playing anyway.
