Learning new things from your dreams

Last night, at a certain point in my dream, I was in a mathematics class, and while "listening" to the teacher that was speaking, I was studying the book that the class required. From what I remember, it was some sort of discrete mathematics that I haven't seen before. I am actually taking Discrete Mathematics right now, and it's funny how, in my dream I was looking at something I have never seen before in the class. Now here's the thing: I wake up and a few minutes later, I take a look in my book, flip a few pages, and I see the exact thing I saw in my dream..O_O. Furthermore, I have never turned to this page of the book ever, or have never heard of it until my dream came up.

My question is: is it possible to learn something you never heard of before in your dreams, and retain it in real life?

man I've had the weirdest dreams the last week. Yours seems really weird too, but it's almost like I don't want to go to sleep because then I have to wake up thinking about all the weird shit I just dreamed about!

I wish I could retain my dreams irl. Sometimes in them I speak in fluent german (I'm a German major) and am not nearly that good at it in real life, and after waking I think back on what I said in the dream and what other people said back (because what they say back is still from my brain) and realize that it was all grammatically correct and such.

If you're serious about reading in your dream and remembering it in waking hours I've read about that. Supposedly you can read at amazing speeds in dreams but it doesn't make sense to me how you could read something you haven't physically seen. You probably saw it at some point without realizing it (turning the pages) and your brain just subconsciously was able to reconstruct it and you read it.

I thought the exact same thing.

I don't think you'll be convinced by this, but maybe you unconsciously did see that information, obviously not processing it, and it simply got stored in your memory and played itself in your dream. Or maybe that's not the case and you just got a free lesson during your sleep.

Sometime last year, there was this old lady, that dreamt of lottery numbers. She was so sure that they were the winning numbers, she played them twice!! on 2 seperate tickets.

When the draw happened, there was a split in the jackpot. I think?? 17 million, for 2 winners.

She held both those tickets!! both her tickets were worth 8.5 million, each. I remember reading the article, and saw the lady holding 2 cheques.

that was amazing, never seen anything like that before.

Your math teacher was whispering math formulas in your ear while you slept. And he was probably touching himself while doing it.

Funny you should mention this, I had this weird dream last night where I used my Rez meal plan card to buy some sort of drink from a vending machine and it said I had something like $222.68 left on the card. When I woke up this morning I went to get breakfast and when the total came in it said I had this exact amount left in my meal plan. Kinda weird.

The likelihood is that you may have browsed the equation and don't necessarily recall it, but it's recorded in your subconscious. I'm pretty sure the experience you seemed to have went through isn't quite what you think it is, as cool as it would have been

I've only taken one psychology course fyi; went over dreams for a decent portion of the class, if that helps.

Nope, it was already in your memory banks, and somehow your neurons triggered the thing through a bunch of electric and chemical reactions, etc. And you didn't learn squat. Fin~

It's also possible that while you had never seen that page before in your life, you also didn't actually dream of it, but that your mind created the memory of having dreamed it when, in your half-awake state, you in fact saw it for the first time.
