    Technical Difficulty

I have recently been having a problem where when I attempt to turn on POS Viewer and subsequently FFXI itself from within the viewer, the game will launch a windows configuration installer and attempt to get me to install information from my disc drive. Hitting cancel causes it to cancel for approx. 2-3 seconds if it has not completed gathering it's information or if I allow the bar to fill all the way it wants something from my CD drive. Initial reaction was to unplug the internet from the computer and see what occurs (no issue) and remove the CD drive (it still looked for this). It did not occur until I installed WotG. I've contacted lolSE help center but as of yet have had no assistance. Anyone seen something like this before?

Edit: Also tried a System Restore to two weeks ago with neg. result. Thanks for relocating as well.

    Re: Technical Difficulty

the post clearly says POS viewer

i see no S in playonline

therefor it could easily be referencing something else

wake up and lrn2read or gtfo

now if you really meant playonline viewer, and not some 3rd party app that i dont know about, what exactly is it trying to install? it should say..., the only real suggestion (besides the obvious of turning of system restore as its a useless waste of hd space, is to reinstall =/

I think he said "POS Viewer" because he's angry at the fact it isn't working correctly, thus it's a piece of shit to him.

    Re: Technical Difficulty

True, besides i've always called it POS instead of POL just because i've never liked the interface.

    Also, wall of text time...

Rep: Hello, ---, thank you for contacting the PlayOnline Information Center. Just a few moments while I review your question, please.
Rep: Which Platform are you having trouble with?
    Me: the windows version
Rep: When does the software try to re-configure the settings?
Me: on the initial run of pol viewer, and again when i select the final play button before leaving the viewer
Rep: The software would only scan the machine if it is getting ready for an update.
Rep: Aside from that it would not change any configuration settings.
Rep: What does it change when it does this?
Me: it's not the update scan, which has been working properly
Me: it doesn't actually change anything as i have not allowed it to successfully execute, because i was suspicious of it
Rep: I have never heard of the actual software trying to change any sort of configuration, but it may be possible it could not be functioning correctly if it is trying to.
Rep: Have you run check files for both POL and FFXI?
Me: i haven't tried selecting check files before, although it was done for last week's update as well as yesterdays
Rep: You may want to allow this scan to go through at least once and see if it does it again the next time the software it loaded.
Rep: It is possible it is trying to retrieve files from the server.
Me: it tried to get files from my cd drive
Me: ok, selecting check files caused it to try again, but i cancelled it and am now running the check files
    Me: no problems found
Rep: I would suggest to re-launch the software and allow it to finish the scan.
Rep: Aside from that, I can only suggest to uninstall the software, delete any residual files and reinstall it again.
Me: so i'll have to find my discs again after all
Rep: That may be the case.
Me: i just don't trust the scan because it is unusual behavior and there have been a rash of malware attacks on people in the last few months reported in the community.
Rep: A reinstallation may fix the issue, as the game disc is not required when the game is running.
Me: the thing is though, if i can get past the play button the game still does run, so it isn't missing anything
Rep: I would not be able to explain why it is doing that.
Rep: A fresh installation would most likely fix the issue.
Rep: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, ---
    Me: no, thank you though
    Edit: lined out my name
