Overheating?

So it's summer and in the slums they call dorm building it's like 80 degrees and I notice my comps running hotter then normal, so I do a windows update a turn it off for an hour or so. Turn it back on and it can't find my second (of three) SATA drives, so I restart. Boot up and doesn't complain about missing drives but mouse doesn't work. Restart again, can't find drive again. So I turn it off and leave it alone for another hour, boot up, works fine.

That second drive is still making me nervous though. Any thoughts?

What cooling do you have in there?
Have you run Speedfan to check temps and fan rpm's?

Take some compressed air to it if you haven't recently, it should at least help somewhat. 80F ambient temp before additional heat generated by system is not exactly healthy though, I agree :/

Too hot, and Speedfan tends to underestimate temperatures by 10-15C too. You need to open that up, make sure theres nothing blocking airflow, reseat the heatsink, clean dust off everything, ect

Try using everest to get readings of your components, its usually spot on accurate. And yeah, 50C is WAY to hot for an HDD, on average mine run around 20-25C. Make sure you have some cool air blowing on them. (Antec 900 case owns for HDD cooling, the ambient temp in my room is ~21C and my raptor drive at this time is 23C).

Took compressed air to the insides, plugged everything back in, booted up, couldn't find drive. Removed the drive (it's the only removable one, not hot swappable though if that's at all relvent) and left it alone for another hour, boots up no complaints.

So it's definitely an overheating problem then huh? I really saw it coming, started out as a prebuilt Dell (it was a gift >.>) and I've keep throwing in more drives, more RAM, new VC etc etc. In fact probably the only things I haven't replaced was the fan/heat sink. And the power supply I guess.

Any way... is there anything I can do to cut down on the temp as it'll probably be 4 week until I can go out and buy better case/cooling, trapped on campus with no car. The room I'm in doesn't have AC do not much I can do about the ambient temp either. -.-

You can open up the case and/or point a fan at the front of the system, do what you can to keep the air around your components moving so it doesn't remain too hot.

That's a driver error. After reading this thread: http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthread ... 339&page=3 it basically says that it's again an overheating issue.

Bah, think I'm gonna have to just pull out one or both of my slaves just to cut down on the temp.

Wasn't having any cooling problems at all until just yesterday, the ambient really makes that much of a difference, huh? In like 30 minutes drive shot up from 30 to 50C. -.-

Leave the side off it as suggested earlier, anything to improve ventilation until you can buy better cooling.
