1990 Toyota Celica. Jerky ride.

So when I first got this car it wasn't really a big deal but now its giving me a headache. Here are the symptoms:

When pushing on the gas pedal the JERKS forward even if its a light touch then the problem disappears same when letting off the gas it jerks back. Me and a friend think its the motor mounts and was wondering if this could be causing it and what other things could be causing it.

Also if someone could find me something that tells me where the back motor mount is that would be awesome because we cannot find it to save our lives.

That doesn't seem like motor mounts to me, sounds like something with your car wanting to shift gears if its an auto. Also, is their vibration in your steering wheel or in the car that's more than normal, as that would indicate motor mounts as well.

90-93 Celicas have four motor mounts. One is underneath in the front by the radiator, one is in the lower rear by the firewall, one is on the passenger side near the top by the strut tower, and the last is on the driver's side, sandwiched in above the trans and below part of the frame.

I had the same issue before on my Talon, It was a motor mount that needed to be replaced. If it is the motor mount that isnt something you should let go unchecked, even though it is a big job to do yourself depending on how your car is setup to replace it, its best to check now for rust/cracking.

It might also just need a tune up, that can solve problems like that sometimes as well. What is the rpm of your cars idle? And does the idle move alot or is it steady?

If you want to diagnose motor mounts, follow this procedure:

1) Have one person start the car, put it in drive, and while holding the brake down tightly, bump the accelerator(bump, not stomp).

2) The other person should be standing to the side with the hood up and latched, watching for excessive movement of the engine itself.

If you see it torque over and jump, you have a motor mount loose or failed. Now on healty motor mounts you would still see some torquing when the accelerator, maybe less than an inch of movement. You'll know when you see it if the motor or trans mounts are gone. The motor will twist in the engine compartment.

I own two now, an S14 turned into an S15 Silvia putting out 450hp and a stock S14 that is one of the most gorgeous cars I can imagine. It's like looking at an orgasm.

Edit #2: The reason I mentioned getting a 240SX is because it's a wise investment. If you don't have the cash to get a new car, try finding a good title 240SX from 96-98, preferably 98 but those are more rare and demand a slightly higher price. The car will last forever with good care, oil changes etc. The KA24DE engine will go over 350,000 miles if you treat the car right.

Hm. So I am still having problems. This should describe it:

The problem:
Around a certain point when pushing the gas in and letting it out it jerks a little. Its an isolated point around 3% in to the gas. You can feel the jerk not only throughout the car but in the shifter as well. When in 1st when pushing in on the gas at the certain point the shifter moves back as if something has moved and cannot be pushed back to its original position. Same thing when letting the gas out except the shifter moves back to its idle position.

The attepts to fix:
Replace motor mounts.

Your best bet is goign to be having a mechanic test drive it, I was having problems with my Acura 3.0 CL earlier and none of my friends could figure it out, I brought it to the shop, he drove it around for like 30 seconds and we figured out the problem, you may be able to describe whats wrong with your car, but descriptions are never going to justify an actual checkup by a mechanic, most places may even do it for free(drive your car to see whats wrong.)

Try replacing your MAFS. They can be a cause for stuttering engines.
