    Donnie Darko 2

its real and coming straight to DVD.

    http://www.screendaily.com/ScreenDailyA ... &Category=

It sounds like a prank. We would all like it to be one. But it seems to be legit.

The story comes from Screen Daily, who reports that S. Darko is being shopped around, with Fox already picking up the North American distribution rights. Touted as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit, the story picks up seven years after Donnie Darko left off. The youngest Darko, Samantha, is now 18 and abandoning her commitment to Sparkle Motion. She heads to Las Vegas with her best friend Corey, but the two are plagued with bizarre visions. I imagine they will involve a rabbit.

Richard Kelly, the original director, is in no way involved. Chris Fisher will direct instead. Daveigh Chase, who played Samantha in the original, will reprise her role. It looks like she is the only one. The movie also stars Ed Westwick, Briana Evigan, and Justin Chatwin.

As to the big looming question of why, oh God, why, Simon Crowe of UK sales company Velvet Octopus says they're thinking of the children. "I think there is a new generation of cinema-goers who will be very excited to see this film."

Which generation came of age between 2001 and 2008? Why haven't they rented Donnie Darko? I am afraid these are questions to which Crowe has no answers. But he did quip, "Donnie's not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits."

Nothing is safe from the all mighty dollar, my friends. Nothing. Even when there is a pretty conclusive ending, there can always be a sequel. I'll leave you to think about that as I go pen my script for No Country for Old Men 2.

Screen Daily reports that UK-based sales company Velvet Octopus will be launching sales in Cannes for S. Darko, billed as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko. Fox has already taken North American rights for the $10 million-budgeted film.

Chris Fisher, who previously made Nightstalker and Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders, will direct.

Daviegh Chase reprises her role as Donnie's younger sister. The cast for S. Darko also includes Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow, Gossip Girl), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2 the Streets) and Justin Chatwin (Dragonball).

The story picks up seven years after the first film when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

Producers have spoken to Richard Kelly about the project but he is not involved in any official capacity at this stage.

The project starts shooting May 18.

So according to Screen International, a sequel to Richard Kelly's surreal, quasi-apocalyptic 2001 cult sensation Donnie Darko will begin shooting in Los Angeles on May 18. Entitled S. Darko, the movie will find Daviegh Chase reprising her role as Donnie's younger sister, Samantha; other cast includes Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick (also currently on screens as the jerky older brother in Son of Rambow), Step Up 2 the Streets' Briana Evigan and The Invisible's Justin Chatwin. The story allegedly picks up seven years after the first film, when Samantha and her best friend Corey, both now 18, find themselves plagued by bizarre visions while on a road trip to Los Angeles.

Chris Fisher, who previously co-wrote and helmed Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders and Cuba Gooding, Jr.'s corrupt cop drama Dirty, will direct. "I'm a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality," says Fisher. Producers have spoken to Kelly, about the project but he is not involved in any official capacity at this stage. To my mind this is both amusing and kind of head-shakingly ridiculous at the same time — a sad attempt at recapturing unbottled magic instead of, you know, actually searching for great unproduced scripts.

I really hated the first one; however, I loved all the weird shit that came up with it when it became the fad movie to love. I hope this one has the same stick.

    Re: Donnie Darko 2

I don't even know what will be in the sequel or how they will even tie it to the original Donnie Darko, it was pretty much a sequel-less movie but guess they can't leave shit alone, its gonna suck so bad.

Richard Kelly made a sequel, it was called "Southland Tales"... and it was one of the biggest pieces of shit to hit the cinema this decade. I enjoyed Donnie Darko, and Kelly's upcoming film called "The Box" seems kind of cool (although Cameron Diaz is the star... which will probably keep me from seeing it)... dunno, all his stuff seems overrated.

Why can't you just freaking leave a good thing be? It's so American to keep pumping out a good idea until the very mentioning of it puts a bitter taste in your mouth...

I liked Butterfly Effect, not nearly as much as Donnie Darko, but somewhat of a similar type of movie. Then they go ahead and make "Butterfly Effect 2." What bullshit.

Still waiting for Casablanca 2, it's been more than half a century already, get on it Hollywood.
