    Recovering Router Password

So I've been using my secured network with both my laptop and my regular computer for a while now, but I got a Wii and want to hook that up to my home wireless network. Problem is, I have no idea what the damn Network Key is, and I can't remember writing it down anywhere. It's in both my computer systems, but it's blocked so I can only see the number of characters. What can I do to recover the password?

When I had to reinstall windows on my laptop, I lost my network information for my router, and I ended up resetting the router to factory settings and completely starting from scratch with it.

Without knowing what router you have, there's no easy way to say how to do it, but that is what worked for me, and if you have a Linksys you might have to do the same thing.

Linksys, and is it difficult to set up the system?

It isn't really, if you still have the install disc you should be able to walk right through it.

you should be able to log right into the router (start/run/cmd/ipconfig/type the gateway into your web browser & enter the login info) and easily change the network key, if you can get away with changing the network key that is. unless you meant the router pw, then yes reset it. but the wifi key is simple to change, no reason to worry or reset settings over it...

Resetting a Linksys router takes like 3 minutes tops.

Log in to the router to view/change the key. If you never changed the login info for that, it should be pretty simple (default logins are available online, but usually it's some combination of "admin" and blank).

Usually for Linksys the default login address is at 192.168.1.1, try going there, username is left blank and password is usually 'admin' by default if you haven't changed that before. Try going to wireless settings, then security, the password should be displayed somewhere there as well as the type of security encryption (WEP, WPA, etc..). Might be different depending which firmware you're on.

hold reset for 30sec or longer then release. Then here you go, setup everything again.

Thank you, with this I found my way to this page, but the password was still hidden, so I just restarted my router and reconfigured the security settings myself, so everything is fine and dandy now! Thanks for the help.
