If it's infected or anything like that, typically there's an operation where they cut away the whole nail, had to have this twice <_<
Waiting lists are annoyingly long most of the time, at least here in the UK.
In the meantime, things like hot water baths and that eliminate the pain, I know it really badly hurts ;x
Ill just shoot my damn toe off! It will hurt but only before I go to the hospital and get it properly amputated!!
so glad you didnt post pics and
REMOVING THE WHOLE NAIL WAT?!
holy hell that is way more ingrown than I ever imagined
I've already tryed taking a sharp pocket knife to it to try to dig it out myself but god fucking damn doing that to myself fucking blows ass! If someone else did it I could bear it! But fuck!! It hurts right now too. Can't fucking sleep
!
if i shoved my penis in your ass would it help?
had ingrown toenail come from fucking nowhere dealt with it for almost 8 months, when i dropped a paper plate on my foot and screamed as loud as i fucking could at the pain and decided to get surgery, had 4 surgeries total on it and im so fucking happy.
tl;dr go find a foot doctor stat
I have deformed/oversized second and third toes on my left foot, so I get ingrown toenails on the inside part of my left big toe pretty often since the other ones tend to push it down basically all the time. Try digging it out after a shower or something. A lot of times it's easier to cut out if its grown a bit. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to go to a doctor, he'll numb it up and cut it out...last time I went they said if I had to come back for the xth time they'd cut the root out of the left part so it wouldn't grow back at all. awesome.
Just keep the nail cut very short as much as possible, and make sure from now on you cut in a straight line across the nail instead of tapering the edges if you weren't before
POIDH
I had an in-grown on both my big toes at the same time at one point. When I first went to the doctor the guy used an awesome laser apparatus after he cut the side of the nail off to cauterize the nail so it wouldn't grow back in that spot. Well, it worked for a few months until I got another in-grown on my right big toe again (my left one never received another one). So I go back, he's amazed his precious laser didn't work and decided to cut the side again and just pour acid down my toe. I've never had an in-grown since, thankfully. Apparently acid > laser :O
Edit: smelling your own burning nail and skin from the laser is quite nauseating, but seeing your toe smoke is awesome!
Ouch >.<
I've suffered from these quite a bit actually, always on my big toe on both feet. I can give you some advice.
First thing's first. Do NOT whatever you do, try to dig it out yourself. Yes, it might be temporary relief for a little bit, but when it grows back and becomes ingrown again, it WILL get infected. Doing self surgery is never the answer. I have tried steralizing stuff before I used it, using alcohol while doing it, and it always gets infected, which makes it hurt that much more when it grows back in.
What you need to do is schedule an appointment with a Podiatrist. (foot doctor) As embarassing as it might seem, trust me, you won't care once it is removed. My particular Podiatrist numbed the toe, then proceeded to stick two HUGE shoots down either side of my toe, to expose the nail. When I saw this, I felt sick, so I advise you not to look. Anyway, he clipped the nail down to normal levels, put some acid on it, so that the roots of the nail wouldn't grow back (90% chance they won't) and then put some ointment on it. Stick removed, bandaged up, and that's it really.
Treatment afterwards consists of soaking your foot in warm water with a capful of vinegar a couple times a day, just to ward off infection. You will ooze puss and other nastiness, but man, the relief is sooooo great. If you're covered by insurance, you won't pay much (should be w/e your co-pay is) but if you aren't, it'll run you about 300 bucks. I'd gladly pay it though. I really suggest you do the same.
Also. Your toe will hurt like hell after the novacaine wear's off, but it's not due to the sticks being shoved in your toe, it's from the shot of the novacaine. Your toe doesn't have much skin to it, so it's a rough area to get a shot in.
Hope this personal input helps!
Using nail clippers to cut a V in the middle of you toenail will help to ease pressure on the sides if its one of those types of ingrowing toenails. Just be careful not to catch the edges when you put socks on. If you have one of those funky wrap-under bastards though then you're pretty fucked until you see a Doctor.
I've had to have the final 1/3 of one of mine taken off a few times - they numb it up and just remove the final 1/3 section of it, then put a comedy bandage on it for a few weeks. If it happens again I have to have the root killed off apparently - screw that for a game of cricket!
Always joyful when I live in sandals as long as possible and work with kids who have the accuracy from hell when it comes to accidentally stepping on it.
Pretty sure doctors say not to do this as the nail will still grow back and you can make it worse.
I have a slight ingrown toenail on my right foot's big toe. Periodically I just deal with the discomfort and dig out the edge and clip it. I wish the fucker didn't grow back but I'm like maintaining it so it doesn't get worse. I don't see how people let it get infected, that's just gross.
Stick cotton or something with neosporin on it under your nail. Like, lift it up some and wedge some in there.
I had part of my big toenail partially removed using lasers due to an ingrown toenail. Several years later the damn thing grew back, it doesn't cause much discomfort yet but I may have to get the whole damn nail removed this time. Then I found another one on the big toe on my other foot.I feel the pain, but other than minor surgery or digging it out very slowly and painfully, and hoping it doesn't grow back, that thing is there to stay.
I got my edge of my toenails permanently removed through a somewhat painful operation. I went through about 10 seperate operations because my ingrown toenail kept on coming back, one on the left side of the left toe, right side of the left toe, etc etc. I finally had it after the 9th time and didnt go back for 2 years (and I lived with the ingrown toenails for that long). It got so bad that I had to go get it operated again, and I decided to go the permanent route.
24 shots later (I'm not kidding you, 12 shots in each toe, I almost killed myself, if not it killing me) they stuck a cotton swab that had some sort of chemical into the hole they stabbed in with the scissors at the root of my nail, supposedly killing the cells that start the growth. 3 years later they are clean and straight and beautiful, and nothing has grown. I am free!!
although people recommended against it, and I probably do to, I always just dug them out myself and it actually worked for the most part heh
If it's become seriously ingrown, digging it out with a nail clipper or other implement can be quite dangerous as it just asks for an infection to either start, or get worse. If, after a shower or cleaning your feet, you toe still smells like cheese you've got an infection.
If that is the case go see a doctor immediately, either by calling your GP or visiting a drop-in clinic. A GP or primary care doctor may be able to treat less severe ingrown nail problems by anaesthetizing your toe and cutting out the nail shard, then possibly starting you on a course of antibiotics to clear up the infection. If it's more serious or requires more corrective treatment, you'll likely get a referral to a podiatrist.
Ingrown toenails are not something you can just "out wait" and will only get worse with time. Your best bet is to keep it clean but otherwise leave it alone until you can see a doctor for proper assessment and treatment.
