    The Strangers

Has anyone else been to see this film?

I have. I wasn't too impressed. Normally not a fan of thrillers/horrors, but forced along for class, I went in with an open mind. Sadly, the creaters of this abomination of a film took it upon themselves to fill my previously empty mind full of shit and toothpicks.

For anyone who hasn't seen this film, it is essentially a pre-determined set of intense and gripping scenes, with the worst excuse for a backstory and ending tagged onto the sides to make it "complete". The aforementioned back story seems so forced you can almost hear the writers grimacing at the thought of actually having to write something original come through in the actors screaming. (note: I was going to write dialogue, but I thought that would have been innapropriate considering there isn't one memorable quote from this film I can think of, besides the pre-requisite 'Based on actual events' at the start, which should also be taken with a generous pinch of salt.)

Normally I'm against spoiling the ending of films, and think people who spoil films should be put to death by having their stomach acid pumped out of them and fed to them, through the eye. However, on this occaision, I choose to go against my better judgement and spoil the ending for all of you; There isn't one!

That's right, no ending. That's not to say the film doesn't end, unless of course you decide to sit in the cinema and stare in disbelief at the screen at how terrible what you just witnessed actually was.

My only admiration for this film comes from some well thought out and well planned shots, which do lead to memorable moments, which sadly are eclipsed by the giant floating, poostained anus that is the plot.

Media production, we're to analyse all the techniques of film making in it. It's annoying having to comment positively on a film you absolutely detest. Atleast I can go apeshit on the script writing!

Heh. That makes sense I guess. I imagine it's sort of like being a professional film critic. Having to see all those horrible films since it's your job.

I thought it was decent at best. I don't have high expectations for horror/thriller movies nowadays. I think it was trying to go for a psychological thriller and just failed and ended up a bump in the night movie, which it kind of failed at that too.

I absolutly hated it. So absolute that I don't think I spelled absolutly right!!

It had basically NO plot, just people getting tortured and killed for the "fun" of it.

I have no problem with blood + guts and the sort, I just hate killing for the just of it, that seems barbaric to me.

Exactly, I'm attempting to describe the motives of the killers, and I'm stuck. The best I can come up with is "psychotic hillbillys" but even that doesn't work since the setting may not be the deep south, and the ending throws a massive curveball in the form of "crazed religious murderers".

Probably better than any reasoning I can come up with. REASONING I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO COME UP WITH IF THE FUCKING SCRIPT WRITERS DID WHAT THEY WERE PAID TO DO!

Thought it was the best horror movie I'd ever seen (or at least in as long as I can remember).

The antagonists were pretty creepy, but the movie wasn't that great.

    Spoiler: show
But I don't understand how they fucking got into the house (like the part where the girl was getting water and the guy just appears). It seems like the one girl thought someone else lived there but the way they just take off in the end makes it seem like they were just passing through.

The movie was inspired by a group of home intruders/robbers who would see if there was anyone home by knocking on their door at 3 AM and asking for someone else.
