CPU Fans

I'm looking into buying a new CPU to drop into my rig, this in particular:

However, most of the reviews sound like the pack-in fan is a piece of shit. Could I get a recommendation on a good, quiet fan?

This one is the King of cooling, pricey yes, worth it?, you bet, i use it on a E8400, overclocked to 4.2ghz, thing keeps it cool and it runs very quiet.

This one is ok if your not planning on doing any crazy over clocking.

Last but not least, use a good thermal compound such as Arctic Silver, this stuff is the best in helping keep temps cool.

The Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 is actually a decent HSF, I've overclocked my Q6600 up from 2.4ghz to 3.2ghz no sweat, if I'd used better thermal paste and sorted the airflow in my case a bit better I could get it to 3.4ghz I think.

Fan is quiet on it, especially with a decent mobo which has fan profiles, my computer is about as loud as a whisper and it has 7 fans in it.

I have my Q6600 overclock to 3.8 at 59C on prime 95 load. It idles at 38C. This is the best air cooler you can get without having to sandpaper the heatsink/CPU. It also comes with a 120MM fan so you don't have to buy one.

Actually the kings of cooling are the Tuniq Tower and the thermalright ultra 120 extreme.

Buy the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 though, unless you intend to do serious overclocking.

Yup, Freezer Pro 7 is the best bang/buck for what you're needing.

Freezer 7 Pro is in my rig atm, just that and one 120mm case fan to provide flowthrough, and with an E8400 OC'd to 3.6ghz it's well within comfort zones.

Also, MX2 is better then AS-5 compound

The Freezer 7 Pro has pretty decent paste pre-applied, should be fine for the OP's needs and will save a few bucks.
