my zeni group just got one of these.
would you try to sell it/split loot, or is it actually good for jobs like rdm or bard?

I'd say a duelist's chapeau red mage could use it for para and slow and have enough macc to land it. Yes, HQ staves give more MACC, but you only need so much for most things in this game.
Without duelist's chapeau, I'd stick to HQ staves.
Dunno about brd. Don't think I would use it for anything on blm, whm, smn, sch except stoneskin, and there's kirin's pole for that.
I personally see a lot of use in this. RDM enfeebles I'd definitely use it over HQ staves, since potency of enfeebles is not boosted through the MAB of staves.
on BLM I would use it for elemental enfeebles though- again, where the INT + macc is of greater value than the MAB + macc.
I would most definitely use this on RDM, great for MND build for para and slow.
I was wondering if this would be good for BLM elemental debuffs (assume this would put me at 150 tier, goddamn race limitations..)?
rdm is better off using wand and shield for mnd build the only thing i would use this for is to help with stoneskin on brd

it's been said already: if you're a rdm who understands having higher skill will not "magicly" allow you to land your enfeebles at will and understand boosting potency gives you better returns in the long run, this is the weapon of choice. (I.E. good for rdm, blm elemental dots, etc.)
possibly good for brd under the consideration that having higher chr helps to reduce resist rates fairly well (though I've seen similiar reports that elemental/enfeeble is effected similiarly by their attributes)
why face palm you can get 17 mnd from wand shield(16 easily) and brd can't use kirin's pole
HQ staves are better for landing and wand/shield is more mnd then this and easier to obtain
oops, got caught with my pants down it seems. My mistake on Kirin's pole for brd, I stand corrected.
However:understanding rdm enfeebling is about worthwhile trade offs. Giving up a ton of accuracy bonus for marginal +mnd isn't very smart.
giving up 20m.acc for a wand/shield combo of 16mnd (a 6 mnd gain) just isn't very worthwhile.
examples of good enf/m.acc give ups for mnd up:
enfeeble earring for mnd+2 earring
enfeeble torque for promise badge or morgana's choker
warlock's tabard for errant houplande(mahatma)
Nashira Seraweels for 7 or mind leg gear (morrigan/errant/mahatma/jet) (seriously, stop using nashira seraweels for slow/para, idiot rdms piss me off)
Avocat Pridges -> 5 or more mind feet (mahtama/errrant/morrigan)
and bad examples:
dueslist chapaeu -> 3-4 mnd head gear
I kinda follow a "2/3rds" rule, if the mind gained is 2/3rds(or more) the skill/Macc lost, it's a good gain. if it's less then 2/3 then I don't do it.
Trading Staves for wand/shield is general (in my experience) hurtful unless it's sonething SO easy to enfeeble a whm could enfeeble it, or using ES.
but Alkalurops's MND and Macc defiantly gives it a very small(if any) drop in macc with a strong mnd gain.
i also forgot strap gives 2mnd so i guess its not so bad after all
Take what I will say with a grain of salt because this info comes from some guy on irc who's name I do not remember.
He said alkalurops is far far far inferior to hq stave as far as macc goes. I believe I remember he posted in the old zeni thread that turned into PW thread that he was going to test it, and he told me that the difference was so big it wasn't worth posting.
Would be nice to have some formal testing on this, though alas I have no access to this item.
You should really set up a lotting system before you pop anything. Do you pool triggers or get them individually? If it's the latter, then leave it up to the person who popped it... We only pool T5 triggers. T1-3 loot goes entirely to the person popping it. T4 best item goes to the popper and the rest goes to the bank.
I'd use it for elemental enfeebles and stoneskin, but probably sell if I could get 5m+ for it.
My boyfriend had one of these. He only tested it for like an hour or so from what I remember against Pluto's Staff using Sleep/Sleep II on imps and Auster's Staff using Silence on puddings and the difference was so immensely noticeable to him (in favor of Pluto's/Auster's) that he sold it ASAP after that for like 8 mil. He was RDM.
That's kind of a stupid thing to test it on, the whole point for RDM is for the added potency of the MND while still finding a middle ground in terms of MAcc in between HQ staves and wand + shield.
If you have a Muse Tariqah, I would be inclined to go wand + shield because that's a pretty fat stack of MND, however if you already have an Alkurops you can still easily get get 12 MND out of the weapons slots and have a nice boost to MAcc for your MND build. I personally would just go with whichever you get first, both are nice options. As far as using it for anything else outside of Stoneskin for BRD, probably not.
Well, I think the point was that if it's against something that's pretty difficult to land on, and the difference between the accuracy of the Alk-whatever and the HQ staves was huge (which it really was), it would serve no purpose there, and for the majority of the rest of the things that he does, which are generally easy to land on anyways, he's better off just using Mistilteinn and a shield or DW'ing 2 Mistilteinn if doing something /NIN and banking up 8 mil from the Alkalurops. I'm not sure what monsters/situations really qualify for "middle ground." Most things that I've seen either nearly never resist or resist quite a lot, Alkalurops being less useful than the alternatives in either situation. But I'm not a RDM myself, this is just eyeballing, so I'll shut up. :D
The Accuracy is less than a HQ Staff, and the potency is less than the Club/Shield combo, but in saying that it still seems very good for RDM. It's really the first weapon that adds significant levels of both accuracy and potency (for enfeebles). Previously you had to chose all Accuracy, or all potency, and mobs that really need the high levels of slow/para also usually have some resistance to them as well.
This lets you add a good level of MND without having to give up all the MagAcc you have when using an Ele Staff. (although only for varaible strength enfeebles, you wouldn't be using it over a HQ Elemental for Silence or Sleep).
Like many ppl have already said, you do not use this for the accuracy. This does not replace Pluto's Staff for Sleep or Auster's Staff for Silence. This allows you to add +12 MND while also getting an amount of Magic Acc that most agree is less than HQ Ele Staffs.
Like Vail said, it is a very good tradeoff of some Acc for a significant amount of MND since it is somewhat easy to reach a point of diminishing returns with enfeeble skill nowadays.
I got super lucky with my Alkalurops and went 1/1 on it with my Tinnin pop. It is mine and mine alone. I have been offered 6 - 8 mil for it and have never considered it. It's a great piece for RDM, no doubt.
However, it is a piece of garbage for BRD. Terra's Staff/Apollo's Staff outperform it by far.
