    Moving Expenses

    Guys, question for you all. Planning on moving out in a few months and I'm looking at a small 1-bedroom place for bout 400 a month. Trying to get a good idea how I should have saved back to get me going off the bat (in terms of moving expenses, getting utils up and going, etc... etc...) Any suggestions?

    edit: Also, for anyone that lives around the Indianapolis area, any ideas how the job market is there? Want to have something to fall back on if they don't let me transfer to the IN location at my current job.

    Uh... depending on the place, be prepared to pop out first + last + security + application fee. Utilities? Again, depends on the place. Some include most of the utilities in the rent. I pay for electric and water separately here. My friend has had an $8 electric bill before, mine are usually around $40-$50 a month. Water is.. I dunno, a bit high I'm sure ($70 or so.. lolz).

    Depending on your credit and whatnot, you may have to drop ~$25 deposits for your electricity account, I know I had to.

    Also, take into account if you'll be eating out a lot before you get a fridge/cupboards stocked up and if you need to buy all that necessary shit like medicine cabinet goodies, cleaning products, etc etc etc. That crap really piles up when you don't really bring all that shit with you right off the bat.

    The first month's utility bill will be huge if they end up charging you installation/service fees. At 400 a month I'd quadruple that and expect laying out that much for your first month.

    Make sure to have a high overhead when starting new somewhere else so you don't stress yourself out. If you don't need to and you feel you need more money before moving out, do so instead of jumping the gun.

    Or doughnuts and coffee if it's a morning move.

    A lot of apartment complexes have "always on" utilities so all they have to do is transfer the service to your account. You most likely won't have to worry about installation fees for anything but your cable (unless that's also included in your rent).

    Mainly to be moving closer to family, sister lives bout 45 minutes away from Indy & mother is planning to move around there as well. That... and well, the sooner I can get out of here the better. Biggest problem is right now, earliest I can get out of the lease is march 09 ;_;
